What can I do to relieve itchy skin due to drying?

I live in Northern British Columbia. The fall weather is lingering but the air is drying out steadily. The skin on my upper back and shoulders and back of my scalp is becoming itchy. We also have relatively hard water. I believe the salts in the water are being absorbed by my skin more with the drying atmospheric air, causing a bit of an alkali reaction. Whatever solution exists to this problem would probably have to neutralize this alkali bloom on the skin.

What can I do to relieve itchy skin due to drying?
if it's really bad, maybe you need to see a dermatologist. if you want to try at-home remedies first, then i would suggest buying either an in-shower conditioner for your skin (i think dove makes one, they work just like a hair conditioner). it's also important not to dry off right away, your skin needs moisture, so walk around and air dry, don't strip the water off with a towel. when you're mostly dry, moisturize with a lotion for dry skin, i suggest vaseline intense moisture lotion.
Reply:mousturize them with lotion or oil.
Reply:moisturize. lotion. etc
Reply:hydracordisone cream with 2%.....works like a gem...any drug store has it
Reply:use a emolient cream like keri lotion. it is a bit greasy at first but it will definitely help...

make sure you wear cotton against your skin, and dry off well after your shower. You might try a emolient soap like oilated aveeno, it will not dry out your skin.....

If you have a bathtub, once a week, fill the tub, put in some oil, ( baby or sofsyn) and soak for 15 min. pat your skin dry and apply your lotion....

you should be appling lotion on your body everyday after your showers....
Reply:Vaseline Intensive Rescue lotion for dry skin is just fabulous, amazing and I would know, I am in Kuwait at the moment!
Reply:put some baby oil in your bath water and when you get out put some moisturizing lotion on yourself...for your scalp you can give yourself a hot oil treatment and use a good condition...u can also get a good leave in conditioner for your hair that you just spray on and don't have to wash out...hope this helps!!!
Reply:Increase the humidity in the room you are living in... that will help.
Reply:just apply lotions (choose the one for very dry skin ) as often as you can...you can avoid this because this is climate you have in your country but at least it will ease the itchyness and lessen dryness.
