Is it true that itchy skin is a symptom of kidney problems?

This is a general itchiness all over but no rash, spots or bites. I've heard that liver problems can cause an itchy skin, but kidneys too?

They can, but you would have other symptoms and be rather ill.





Chances are you have an allergy to something.


The body getting too hot can also give these symptoms.





Keep checking for a rash or bites, sometimes they don't come up straight away.

Reply:No...itchy skin has to do with the histamine in your body and your kidneys don't have anything to do with histamine.
Reply:not heard of that before but I know when i was young i had itchy skin quite alot and my nan used to give me Milk of Magnesia, which helped....at that time my nan told me that my blood was hot......not sure if thats true or not....will have to look into it :)

YES - I had a kidney transplant a few years ago and when my kidneys failed - I had itchy skin - it was due to the excessive UREA in my system - If you are worried about kidney problems - don't listen to rumours - go see a doc and have an IP profile done on your blood.


Itchy skin could be anything - find out for sure what the problem is and then you are in a position to dealt with it on the basis of fact.

Reply:hi,yes i have heard this as well it can be a symptom of kidney infection,but there are other symptoms as well.itchy skin can be from allergies and other things as well,check it out with your doc if you are worried.good luck.
Reply:Yes, My father needs a liver transplant and he itches like crazy. His doctor said its a symptom from his liver failing.
