My dog is constantly itchy, has reddened skin and hair thinning. Tried everything -any suggestions?

My dog has very itchy skin. She does not have hot spots. Many areas of her skin are red looking and her hair has become thin. She has been in and out of a cone for over a year. It seems to come and go a bit but we cannot figure out what it is or what to do. Have had her tested for everything including lupus. Tried antibiotics, steroids, antihistamines, different foods, no treats, not letting her go near grass, bathing with different shampoos.

Help! Any ideas?

My sister's dog was the same - she used to rub eucalyptus oil into the skin and it cleared up. better ask Vet first though.
Reply:you should take her to the vet if you have not already cause they should kno what to do
Reply:Our German Shepherd experienced the same thing. We took her to multiple vets and we did the dips, steroids, injections, etc. for over a year. Finally, through a friend at work, we were told to try Brewer's Yeast pills. You can buy them at any drugstore for about 10 bucks for 100 pills. We have been giving her 2 pills a day for six years. She has a healthy coat of fur and has never had anymore skin issues. Give it a try. The pills provide Vitamin B and have no side effects.
Reply:What about a quality food with no grains? Grains are the number one cause of allergies in dogs, so a food like Innova Evo, Orijen, or Solid Gold would be good to try.
Reply:Did you have her tested for Mange?

Where on her body are these spots?

Have you had her allergy tested?

Do you add Salmon, Cod Liver, or Flax seed oils to her diet?

Maybe try that, or "Missing Link"

Put her on a RAW or home cooked diet if you can.
Reply:ask your vet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... I am so sorry if it is somthing that leaves your dog misrable.
Reply:If you have taken her to the vet and ruled out things like mange etc. then try fish oil tablets. They are available in most pet stores like PetsMart and PetCo. My black lab mix had terrible skin problems. After taking her to the vet and ruling out any real big healthy problems, he suggested fish oil tablets. We give them to her twice daily, and in few weeks her skin greatly improved. Now as long as she is one the fish oil, her skin is fine.

  1. There are lots of things to be thankful for but i guess none of them is my dog that has a lot of dog skin problems. I don't want to sound bitter but it is something i can't hardly be proud of. My family knows that I love my dog very much, they really wanted me to help on this we do a lot of treatments, but then, all of them costs me too much money, until they discuss me about the dog skin solutions created by Linda Kajda that helps me a lot to treat my dog skin problems, I really work on hard just do get over it.
love your blog =) thanks for sharing
