Itchy skin after bath?

My middle son 11) says his skin is very itchy after his bath time, I even see him scratching his legs right now. His skin also gets real wrinkly, but what can I do to stop the itch?

He says its most itchy at his face, legs, arms and back

Itchy skin after bath?
It could be the soap he is using. I have a similar problem. I cannot use certain soap, shampoos, etc without my skin becoming incredible itchy(with no other symptoms, no rash, redness, etc).

Try changing soap a few times to see if that is the cause. Remember it could be the shampoo or the bar soap. The only soap I can really use without a problem are Dial and Dove.

Do not use any lotion as these may also cause a problem. Be sure he is rinsing the soap off really well before he gets out of the tub, in case it is the residue on his skin that causes the problem.
Reply:Dry skin. Use lotion
Reply:happens to me, its a result of dry skin and soap
Reply:He could have eczema. My daughter had it as a toddler but it has gotten better in the last several years. Eucerin makes a good anti-itch lotion. Your local drugstore or Walmart should have it. After a bath is a perfect time to put it on.

Eucerin is a non-irritating lotion recommemded for dry skin.
Reply:NO LOTION. Sure, he will stop itching for a moment; but a couple hours later (or tomorrow morning) he will scratch again. He is only 11. At this age it is better to change the soap you use first. If he still has problems, find a carbon based water filter if in a financial bind. If you can afford it, you can get an effective water filtering ball at Whole Foods Market or other natural food grocers. Your son itches either b/c his skin is reacting to the soap or the presence of a mass of metals in the water is being absorbed by his skin.
Reply:It could be the soap he is using, or dry skin, try changeing some of this and see if it improves.
Reply:I'm 12!

This question is easy to answer!

after you take a bath you put on lotion or cream!

I do it cause my mom doesn't know.....
Reply:try unscented natural soap. grind up some oatmeal and put it in his bath. buy some aveno moisturizer for after the bath. it works great!!!
Reply:cocoa butter lotion
Reply:Buy a moisturizing soap, because the soap you're using is causing the problem.

To treat dry skin, use any moisturizing lotion.
Reply:Hard water and cheap soap might cause a chemical reaction that produces chlorine or another chemical, causing the skin to itch. Get a water softener or a different brand of soap. Good Luck!!!

Reply:I'd try switching soaps first, that's the most likely cause. If that doesn't help you could also try changing the shampoo and conditioner he uses. Aveeno oatmeal bath works great too.

It could be his skin is getting dried out. If that's the case, have him take a quick shower with cool to lukewarm water and a moisturizing soap. Hot water, long baths, and harsh soaps can make skin dry.
Reply:Sounds like he's staying in the tub too long and his skin is dry. Don't let him stay in the tub for too long. If he soaks (plays) in the tub, then don't use the soap until just before he'll be getting out. Then wash quickly and get him out. Use Dove or Tone.
Reply:Does he have dry patches when he is dry? if not then it's unlikely he has eczema. I get red raised itchy patches after a bath. it's just what my skin does, it always goies away without a trace a little while later. So I tend to take more showers than baths as I don't getit then. But it might be worth looking at what he washes with incase he's allergic. Get him to wash with mild or baby body washes and shampoo for say a week ortwo and see if there's a difference.
Reply:Mayve instead of taking a bath, he should shower. I would recommend using some lotion, but, if that doesn't solve anything, take him to a dermatologist.

:o)
Reply:Sounds like the water is too hot, "His skin also gets real wrinkly", for his skin.
Reply:I have a 7 y/o with the same problem and think you should take him to the dermatologist. You can start cutting out baths, instead tell him to take warm not hot showers(quick showers), get him glycerin soaps, instead of using lotions he can use mineral oil. I hope it helps a little bit.

Good luck,
