Lexapro and itchy skin?

Has anyone had major itchy skin after several months of taking Lexapro? My skin itches so bad I can't stand it any longer. I have been to the doctor several times, but he doesn't seem to think it's from the Lexapro.... My back, head, neck...well all over itches so bad. Let me know your thoughts.

I have taken lexapro and know many others who have and honestly, no one has complained about itching. Not sure where you live, but if you live in a cold climate where you have a furnace running often, dry skin can be a real problem this time of year. A good body lotion, and I recommend one with oatmeal, may solve your problem. Also, keep your body hydrated well by drinking plenty of water.





Having said that, please understand that many of us are very prone to suggestion and obsession and the connection between the mind and body is a strong one. You have it in your head now that the lexapro is causing the itching, so getting to the root of the problem is not going to be a piece of cake.





If you want to prove to yourself that your itching is not caused by an allergic reaction to lexapro, try putting some benedryl creme or cortisone creme on one particularly bad spot for a few nights. If the itching stops, then go back and discuss it with your doctor, keeping in mind that it may be some other substance that you are allergic too.

Reply:I've been taking 10mg of Lexapro for almost 4 months now, I can honestly say that it doesn't have that effect on me. Maybe you are taking other meds that cause you to become itchy? Maybe you recently switched the following? : Shampoo, Conditioner, Laundry Detergent, etc, etc? Try talking again to your doctor or PCP (Primary Care Physician) about it. Maybe look into seeing a dermatologist.

Reply:I have been taking Lexapro for a few months now and I have had some bad side effects but no itching. Ive never really heard of that.
Reply:i have been taking lexapro for about a year now and yes i have itchy skin i don't know if it's from lexapro but mine is more like irritating pins poking me mainly in my feet and legs sometimes all over so sorry i can't give u a for sure answer but these are the things i have experienced
