For the Dogs with dry skin just like humans you can put a lotion on them. A vet told me to get a lotion same as humans use, like Lubiderm. Make sure they are perfume, scent free etc. then you just rub it into their skin as you would on your own. When getting any type of shampoo, lotion etc. if it be made for dogs, cats or humans you wanna make sure it is either Alcohol free, or has very minimal alcohol in it because this just makes the skin even drier then it was to begin with.

Also if you get a Tea tree oil, FLEAS,LICE,ETC DO NOT LIKE THAT STUFF...put a little bit of the oil in a spray bottle mixed with water and spray a mist over the animals and rub it in.(This can also help with the dry skin problem) This may take a couple applications but once on you should see the fleas fleeing the scene lol,,they do not like it. I don't know why, I just know that Ive tried it w my cat and it worked, and I also tried it on my kids when the school had an outbreak of lice, I would just spray a fine mist over their hair (during brushing, or after done styling, etc,) before school and they never got the lice.

Also Limonene is an Orange oil, this also acts as a flea repelant, you use it the same as you would the tea tree oil.

Good luck, I know fleas are a royal pain to get rid of.

Also....

If you have fleas in your carpet, you can sprinkle some Borax laundry soap over your carpet this will help kill the fleas, it dehydrates them which in turn kills them. Let it sit and get in the carpet good, and once its sat awhile just vaccuum it up like any other carpet powder.

Best Wishes %26amp; Good Luck!!!
Reply:thay make special shampoo for dogs with dry skin they sell it at wal-mart, petsmart, and pet co.
Reply:Dry skin or possibly mites. Mites are microscopic, so you can't see them. Try buying a shampoo that gets rid of mites and heals dry skin. :D

Hope that helps. Good luck.
Reply:sounds to me like its probably an allergy to something. next time you wash ole stinky, use a pitcher of warm water and add some vinegar and use to rinse. sometimes that gets rid of the stench. maybe the bathing is too often. water dries the skin more. you can also give the dogs a raw egg a week. it has proteins. will also in time give a shiny coat. if your feeding table foods, dont. maybe just call and ask the vets what they can suggest. dont give a name (unless they have to call back-or they'll want you go in). hope this helps you out. good luck!
Reply:This is the typical answer, but go to the vet and get advantage. This stuff works on both cats and dogs so they will be good together and won't make each other sick. It is not very expensive and works for fleas and ticks for at least one month. The stuff you get from walmart is not good for them. It contains poison, that is what kills the fleas and makes your kitty and dog sick. It is terrible for their skin, it dries it out as the poison is working. The advantage from the vet is not nearly as harsh as the crap you get OTC. That is why the vet has it, people don't see it working and will keep putting it on until the animal gets sick and get sores from it. I hope you can get your pets healthy.
Reply:Stop with all the bathing. You are doing it way too often, which means you are stripping away the dog's natural oils and drying out the skin. Sometimes just putting the dogs on a better quality of food will help with dry skin. Look for a dog food with a name you recognize and then let price guide you -for the most part higher quality foods cost more. Just buy a smaller bag and mix in small amounts with their regular food for a month or so to see if it helps.

Put all of the pets on Advantage. If you see even one flea, then its a good sign that there are hundreds more just waiting to hatch in your home. Cats, dog, and mom's pets all need to go on it - probably for 3-4months. You will get rid of the itching once the flea population starts to die down.

Smelly skin is infected skin. Your mom's dog needs to be seen by a Vet. No question about it!

If the dry skin doesn't clear up with your dog after using flea meds and good quality food, then I would also recommend bringing your dog in for a Vet consult, as there are other things he may suggest.
