Itchy Skin?

Every winter my skin starts to itch. (no rash) I've applied all kinds of creams and none seem to work. Any suggestions.

Itchy Skin?
it is from the weather and indoor heating

drink plenty of water and use olive oil soap in the shower to keep your skin moisturized

Castille soap(pure olive oil soap) is easily available in drug stores and super markets

i use Kiss My Face brand which costs about $3 and is a very large and thick bar of soap so it lasts longer than regular soaps

you can also use alveeno brand oatmeal bath flakes

it is designed to soothe itchy skin

it keeps your skin soft smooth and shiny and is all perfectly natural ingredients

you can also use a little baby oil on your skin in the shower it does the same thing but i find the soap is better
Reply:shower!
Reply:when you take a shower you should try rinsing yourself off with cold water right before getting out...it works for my boyfriend...for some reason the trauma of getting out of a hot shower and into the cold air..i don't know
Reply:Yes

Itchy skin?
Most people have itching from time to time. Often, there is no clear reason for the itching. Usually, the sensation goes away in a few seconds or after scratching. In some cases, however, itching can persist. The causes of continued itching range from mild to life threatening.

Itching has many possible causes. These may include:

** allergic conditions, such as skin conditions known as atopic dermatitis or contact dermatitis. Allergic rhinitis is an allergic condition that can cause itchy eyes and nose. Drug reactions, common with penicillin or sulfa antibiotics, are another common cause of allergic itching.

** skin conditions, such as psoriasis, bullous pemphigoid, or abnormally dry skin, sometimes called xerosis

** irritation of the skin. This may be from sunburn, insect bites, chemicals, soaps, poison ivy or other causes.

** skin infections, such as scabies

** bodywide infections such as chickenpox

** cancer or tumors, such as certain blood cancers known as lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and polycythemia vera. Other tumors, such as a skin cancer called melanoma, stomach cancer or a carcinoid tumor can also cause itching.

** conditions with bodywide effects, such as chronic renal failure, certain liver conditions, such as cholestasis of pregnancy, or iron-deficiency anemia

** autoimmune disorders, conditions in which a person's immune system attacks his or her own body. Examples include Sjögren syndrome and multiple sclerosis.

** hormone imbalances such as those that occur in diabetes. Low thyroid hormone levels called hypothyroidism and high thyroid hormone levels, known as hyperthyroidism, both can cause itching as well.

** psychological causes. These may include anxiety, psychosis or cocaine withdrawal

Other causes are also possible. Sometimes, no cause can be found.

Prevention is related to the cause. For example, avoiding sunburn or poison ivy can prevent these causes of itching.
Reply:Have a shower, as you may have residual soap which is causing the itchies. Also it is spring, so you may have seasonal allergies. Try a 'Telfast' for itchies, (green packet) which you can get from a chemist. However some people cant take these, so check with your healthcare proffesional first before you take advice from someone on a forum.
Reply:Just take a bath and disinfect with alcohol. Try to check with your dermatologist if what causes your itchiness. Tea tree gel may relieves the itch and soothes the dryness and discomfort you feel.

Itchy skin???

Hey I'm 30 weeks pregnant and my tummy has started to get real itchy, it's driving me crazy. Coco butter has worked up until now, I've also tried moisturizer but its not helping, what is the best thing for it? What worked for you?

Thanks in advance.

Itchy skin???
Bicarbonate of soda powder dissolved in a warm bath. Brilliant!
Reply:Oatmeal baths in the tubs.
Reply:Try Olive Oil, It works!
Reply:i am 32 weeks and I use Vitamin E oil twice a day!!!! it is the only thing that last the whole day while I am at work!!
Reply:this will sound weird, but I combine Corn Huskers Lotion, Coco Butter and Aveeno Lotion together and it helps when my skin gets extremey itchy during winter
Reply:yep, i had it all over my body which sometimes is a problem you need a blood test for, but just on your tummy use aqueous cream with peppermint oil, get the chemist to make you up some.
Reply:Wash first with mild soap and Ice cold water, then try coating with warm Olive Oil.

Tu-ff it out approximately ten more wks, or see a dermatologist, cracked skin can get infected if so run to the Doctor.

Itchy skin?

Usually only when I'm tired my skin itches and where I scratch raised red lines appear, sometimes bumps. It disappears within half an hour or so, is not dry and the skin recovers completely.

It can appear anywhere on my body, though most common is shoulders and thighs and back. Could this be something to do with the pill? I have been on it (microgynon) for a year, but this only appeared about 4 months ago. It isn't my washing powder, and I don't eat much dairy. I haven't changed my diet drastically either???!

Itchy skin?
Maybe it's hives - these pop up quickly %26amp; can go down again just as quickly. These can be caused by allergies but also stress. Do you get what looks like nettle rash - this is what hives looks like? Try taking an antihistamine if this is what it is.
Reply:I have the same problem as you are experiencing. Although I do have dry skin as well. I was given an answer on here which I will pass on to you and that is to put a capful of olive oil into your favourite shower cream/gel (before using, shake really well). I tried this and found it fantastic. I have not suffered half as much with itchy skin and I have been doing this for about a week. Try it, you have nothing to lose, but everything to gain. It worked for me
Reply:Sounds like eczema. It is basically a skin condition which the skin becomes irritated by something which can range from air temperature to allergies to the type of water you have. It is generally not a big issue since the symptoms go away within a short period of time. You should try some over-the-counter medications for eczema from you local pharmacy. They usually are creams or lotions. This should help.
Reply:Most likely stress-induced. Of course, avoid scratching it. It may not appear dry but it may still need moisturizers. Try Aveeno. Dairy has no connection. Although, certain foods may also cause this. But your symptoms are not generalized pruritus/itchiness. Seek a dermatologist
Reply:It has been known to occur when people are under stress, either conscience or unconscious. But it might just be that your body is short of vitamins or protein
Reply:Not sure what it is but you could use E45 cream it soothes almost all itches.

I hope this helps and you find out the cause

x1x
Reply:Have you considered whether it could be stress related? Maybe just when you are starting to relax and then for a short while your mind goes into overdrive and creates subconcious stress.

I work in the skin care industry and what you are describing was happening to me. I was able to control the itching using one of our products but not understanding the cause was driving me crazy. Eventually I put two and two together.

I should ad that I now try to control the stress with simple relaxation techniques that work for me most of the time

Best of luck

Reply:ihi i have the same kind of problem and i was recommended to use aveeno oil you pour it in the bath or shower you can get it at chemists and you can also get the lotion it soothes the skin and believe me it works as my skin would bleed with itching i would also look at soap powder and bath products as they could be causing the problem as well

Itchy Skin..?
The problem you're having might have to do with your mind. Try not to scratch that itchy spot, and control your urge to relieve the itch. If this problem persists, go see a dermatologist.

Itchy skin?

The skin between by testicles and anus ( I dont know what this area is called ) does get quite itchy quite often. Can anybody tell me why?

Itchy skin?
Thats you're gooch, or properly known as the perineum. Maybe your not cleaning it properly, or maybe its a bit dry. Put sudocrem on it. But make sure its soaked/rubbed in before another person goes down there or they might be a bit conpuzzled.
Reply:Sometimes the area is so close together will produce moisture because of the heat. The moisture could produce an odor also. Sometimes it could turn into a yeast infection. If you wear the regular underwear that my sons call "tighty whiteys" the area creates more heat and more moisture.I have even heard this condition called "jock itch" You may want to change to boxers if you have not yet. Also believe it or not you may want to try Goldbond Medicated Powder. It protects and keeps the area smooth, dry, and comfortable. Men are not the only ones with this problem. Sometimes when women lose weight and have loose skin, the moisture builds up and causes the same problem. I would not suggest any creams unless your doctor prescribes it. If you find that it does not improve, you may want to consult a dermatologist. Just an extr note-most males do not realise that if the testicles continue to stay over-heated, it might cause a problem with fertility. The testicles should stay at a basically cool temperature, this will keep the "boys" cool and viable. As I have said, I am not a physician so if you continue to have problems please consult your doctor

Itchy skin???

Hey, I'm 30.5 weeks pregnant and i have really itchy skin, its not all the time but mostly in the morning %26amp; at night. Its not just my tummy anymore but also my arms, chest, feet and breast, has this happened to anyone else? what was the thing that soothed yours?

Thanks in advance.

Itchy skin???
The Same Thing Happened With My Daughter And Now This Baby To..I Have Moments when I get really Itchy everywhere it seems mostly My Legs and arms And My Stomach. With My Daughter I used to Use Soothing Lotion That Had Aloe In it And it always seemed to stop the itching.
Reply:i get itchy skin when it gets cooler out, i guess it just gets dry. just apply moisturing lotion on your skn and that sound help. and you can alwasy use a moisturing body wash before hand
Reply:I didn't have it all over, but only on breast ,back and tummy. I found that lots of lotion helped me. I think it had to due with the skin stretching.
Reply:Is it PUPPS? I had that, and it sucked. Oatmeal baths and colloidal oatmeal lotion were the only things that helped. I must have gone through a tube of Aveeno Oatmeal lotion every few days. I took a Benadryl before bed (which my midwife OK'd) becasue I couldn't sleep and was scratching myself bloody at night.

If it is PUPPS, it should subside after you deliver. Also, I did not have it with my second pregnancy.
Reply:When you take a shower, make sure the water isn't too hot--it can cause dry skin and make it itch. When you take a bath, add half a container of dry oatmeal to the water and soak for a while. It'll help alot. Also, try Eucerin calming cream--it helps too. Congrats on the baby! Dry, itchy skin sucks!
Reply:Happens everytime I get pregnant. I got a bad case of PUPPS each time. (its a rash that starts on the belly and can move to the arms and legs... OUCH). My doc said its okay to use topical cortizone cream once a day (I did before bed). Its also a good idea to use a water based lotion after every shower, and try not to use water that is overly hot in the shower, it can dry out the skin even more.
Reply:Try taking a bath with a few drops of baby oil in the water and pat yourself dry - MAKE SURE SOMEONE HELPS YOU OUT OF THE TUB! it gets very slippery afterwards, and balance isn't the greatest while pregnant anyhow.

Hope this helps you!
Reply:you may get alot of other answers on here, but another one is that you might be allergic to your fabric sofner, detergent..because when your pregnant you get more sensitive to these things..take some benydryl.
Reply:Yes that's very common, Eucerin cream helped me the most. My youngest daughter doesn't like to wear shows outside so her feet got really dried out and her skin even started to peel, I started putting Eucerin cream on her feet every night and her feet aren't dry anymore.

Itchy skin....?

Hey, I'm 33.5 weeks pregnant and my skin is so itchy it is driving me crazy, I've tried using baby oil and moisturizer but it isn't as effective as i would like. I intend to bring it up with my doctor on Monday but until then does any one have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Itchy skin....?
Have you tried Cocco Butter lotion? It normally helps dry itchy skin... Best of luck!
Reply:rub your scratchys don't scratch but i don't know anything except benedryl spray over the counter
Reply:Just try not to let your skin get too dry. I think its more the stretching that makes it itch, but the moister the better!!! Don't scratch it, it will just itch more. Cetaphil works great, but if your skin is really dry you may need something with oil in it.
Reply:If the itcyness is just around your stomach area this is very common %26amp; caused by your skin stretching. If you are itchy all over the problem could be caused by elevated triglyceride levels in your blood Usually caused by a vitimen deficiency and can be cured by a change in diet...ask your doctor about this as the possible cause. You should have a blood test.
Reply:baby powder .. its the only thing that keeps me sane .. it keeps the area dry, it itches when theres is moisture present. i'm in the same boat at you sister.
Reply:You poor thing! If you are going to use moisturiser make sure it is not perfumed as that can aggravate the itchiness. There is not a whole lot you can do about it maybe you could try having a bath with pinetarsal from the chemist, it smells awful but it might do the trick.

Itchy Skin?

Itchy skin - Nothing Helps?

I have an itch. It starts from the small of the back where the buttocks begins. That exact spot nothing helps, except cortizone lotion. Then the Itch works its way up my entire back.

I tried Alegra, Claritin, Gold Bond Powder, lotion from the dermatoligst, and the best over the counter products. Nothing really helps form more than a few hours. Please help I am not able to sleep.

Itchy Skin?
It is most unlikely that you will get an accurate diagnosis using this medium. Seeing a doctor or alternative natural health practitioner might get better results.

One inexpensive thing to try though is simply to drink more water if you are currently drinking sodas os coffee. Your skin is largest organ of your body and it is used to perspire which is one of the body's ways of removing toxins. If you do not have sufficient water in your system the toxins can build up in your skin and cause all sorts of pimples and rashes. Drinking more water takes about 3 days to bring relief.
Reply:Try changing your washing powder to something non scented and next time you go to the doctors have him check for candida which is a yeast infection which can make you itch like crazy. Try staying away from things with flour and sugar in them and see if it improves.

Itchy skin...?

Ever since i have gone swimming to an indoor pool i've gotten itchy skin, is it the clorine? germs? what?

Itchy skin...?
Likely it's the chlorine. Be sure to shower well after swimming and then moisturize the skin which may be dried out by the chemicals.
Reply:could be the chlorine....advair is what im allergic to and dogs and cts...pollen alot of stuff ugh
Reply:DO U HAVE ICHING FINGERS TO? USUALLY MEANS U NEED TO WASH UR BUTT AND STOP SCRATCHING IT
Reply:Your skin is likely to be sensitive to the water in the swimming pool.

Itchy Skin?

Help, my skin especially my legs get really itchy. It happens mostly after I take a shower or when the temperature changes eg inside warm outside cold. I have been to a couple of dermatologist which I had blood work done but they can't find anything wrong with me. Also I don't have a rash or any other symtoms that you can see. I have tried different lotion, detergent etc that I can think of. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Itchy Skin?
Sounds like dry skin. When you get out of the shower, get your skin damp and then use olive oil. You don't need much, pour a little in your hand carefully and try using it on one body part such as your arm or a leg and see if that helps. If it does, then you can use that every day after you shower. Some of the Europeans and other ancient cultures such as the Egyptians have used olive oil on their skin for centuries. Taking oatmeal baths helps with the itching, just pour 1 cup or so of uncooked oats in your bathtub water.
Reply:USE LOTION!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:epsom salt baths
Reply:That happens to my legs too. I use Eucerin Calming Cream. It's in the aisle with the lotions. I bought it at Target for $7-8. I put it on after I take a shower and anytime they itch. It works really well. My legs don't get all ashy anymore.
Reply:Sounds like dry skin. Obviously lotions are good to use. Also, try to take showers that are not too hot. A good lotion to use is available by prescription. It is ammonium lactate. Works great.
Reply:Try Aveeno with cooling menthol. It really helps to stop the itch. Good luck!
Reply:it might be egima but since its getting cold outside it might just be dry skin

put some good mosturizing cream on and if it doesnt go away in about a week see a doctor
Reply:try using cetaphil lotion really helps with the itch and dryness. that happens to me alot because of the change of whether. try it out hope it works
Reply:1) after you wash your clothing and bedding, wash a secon time without soap..notice how much soap is left in the clothing after the firat was..if there are suds you are using too much soap...wash them in a fron loader with a window so you can watch.

2) always wash your body in an antibacterial liquid soap before the hair and conditioner and rinse well.

3) use Jergans Ultr Healing Extra Dry skin moisturizer at bedtime do not cover legs or feet or arms at bedtime only..use an extra blanket if you are cold.

Good luck. Let me know if that helped..give it 7 days.
Reply:Drink at least six to eight glasses of bottled water - distilled or mineral - per day.

Steer clear of salt, which contributes to skin dryness.

Try Aromatherapy oil available in many health food stores.

Kick coffee and cigarette habits.

Learn YOGA and practice daily.

Massage your thighs and insides of your knees.

Avoid dust mites.

Antihistamines available over the counter from your drug store will work wonders.Try this allergy tablets.

Itchy Skin?

My sister is having very itchy skin. On her scalp, around her mouth, her neck, her chest, and her back.

So it's itched so bad that she had to scratch (even though I told her not to) and there was a dry, scaly patch around her bottom lip on her chin so I told her to try exfoliating.

It didn't really help though.

What can cause this and what can she do?

Itchy Skin?
sounds like seborrheic dermatitis or perhaps psoriasis. tell her to use oatmeal type wash products or things from Aveeno for now, but she DEFINITELY needs to go see a Dermatologist
Reply:Its either an allergic reaction - has your sister used any new/ products recently, or just a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis - tell her to go the docs, if it's closed today she can speak to a pharmacist for some advice, keep away from the exfoliator though which might make the irritation worse!
Reply:many things can cause itching, however, usually it is due to something going on with the liver. has she recently changed soaps (of any kind?) or has she been exposed to a poisonous plant? maybe she's inhaled something in the environment.....

when someone is not normally allergic to a substance or is allergic to something, the liver will make a substance that can cause itching on the skin, rashes are very common.

there are however, diseases of the liver that will cause the liver to filter toxins out of the body, resulting in a rash. some itch, others don't.

it's best to rule out all possibilities first. you need to take your sister to the doctor so he can figure out what it is thats causing it. good luck
Reply:Have you gone to the dermatologist for a check up already? It may be psoriasis. http://www.skinoriginal.com/psoriasis/4-... has some information you can look into about it. Best check with your doctor.

Itchy Skin?

Have any of you suffered from itchy skin on legs in early pregnancy (about 8 weeks)?

Itchy Skin?
the itchy skin is becasue of stretching skin...you could be experiencing early swelling which is causing your legs to itch...use palmers cocoa butter on your legs after your shower it should help .
Reply:try palmers coco butter its great for the expanding skin use this early on in pregnancy on your stomach and it also greatly reduces stretch marks, morning and night applications are essentual for best results
Reply:Sounds like you might be getting some water retention I was very itchy too? we'd like to believe that you wouldn't get stretch marks anywhere elses except on your belly %26amp; breasts. Unfortunatley we just stretch everywhere sometimes... Don't be concerned at all, it was definatley worth it. I couldn't afford all the fancy creams and such, I was to busy getting ready for my new baby. when I had my first baby, I used a light coat of vaseline on my belly, bottom %26amp; breasts after my shower, lotion everywhere else. Then before I'd go to bed I'd lotion myself up again. I still had some stretch marks but I had also gained 85lbs, my ankles were so swollen I couldn't even wear shoes.
Reply:yes its really common - avent do a great cream for it to sooth the skin
Reply:for all you baby questions....this book is the best

What to Expect When You're Expecting, Third Edition by Heidi Murkoff, Arlene Eisenberg, and Sandee Hathaway
Reply:My legs were i little Itchy at First but ,my arms were worse. I just kept Moisturising them n they were ok. But pregnancy affects your skin a lot anyway as your hormones change your skin changes. Its worse when your belly starts itching because your skin is stretching, You will get used to it and it wont seem like its itching so bad then.

Hopefully you will be fine

Good Luck With Everything
Reply:Really badly, used aqueus cream to help sooth it
Reply:I had this it could be Obstetric cholestasis ( i think that's how you spell it)

you have to go to you midwife or doctor to get checked! we only had it diagnosed a week before my daughter was born. She came 5 weeks early! Good luck!
Reply:yes i got some cream from the doctors u can also get some stuff from boots.
Reply:Make sure you tell your midwife. itchy skin can be worrying. there is a blood test you can have to rule out certain problems.

Check out this information at the baby centre. and get yourself checked out.

Reply:don't scratch the itch it will thin the skin and help the stretch marks make an appearance!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:tchy skin during pregnancy is usually caused by the skin stretching and/or by increased blood flow during pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about it.
Reply:Try the links in

Reply:oh yes your skin is stretching as someone else stated in their comments try some lotion like aveeno or nivea that will help.
Reply:you have blood vessels that might be growing bigger but no worries though its the way the body forms to being a mommy. try rubbing and don't stand for a long time relax put your feet up. your heart is now a bigger size than before now you have a baby to care for so the body works overtime. congrats love!!!
Reply:yes i did! i itched all over! it drove me and my husband nuts! i think the itching is caused by the high hormone levels and your body changes during this time! also your more sesensive during pregnancy so soap and things that didnt bother you before might bother you now and be causeing the itching!
