5 y.o son itchy skin mostly after bath?

My five year old son has itchy skin. It is worst after his bath. He is allergic to Eucerin. I tried that once and it gave him a terrible rash. Dove does not help, we used that for several months with no improvent. Any suggestions would be appreciated on lotions, or soaps that could help. He does have eczema, but can not use the Elidel that he used to use because of a reaction with another medication that he is on.

I am allergic to Ivory so I can not try that with him as he still needs a little help. Also tried the Triamcinolone Acetonide cream and that also interferes with a medication that he is on for other reasons.

5 y.o son itchy skin mostly after bath?
You can try the Aveeno oatmeal body wash. Thats what my husband uses because he also has eczema.
Reply:personally do not use elidel because lymphoma is a side effect- i try to stress that because i lost a sister to lymphoma sept 11, 2005..... have you tried palmers cocoa butter lotion?? i also have eczema and i know how painful it is... that seems to work for me... as far as cleanser- have you tried cedayphil lotion?? you can use it in water or not.... it is fragrance free and has gentle moisturizers.......
Reply:i've had eczema since i was born and my skin still itches after i leave a bath.make sure whatever moisturizer your using has no colouring or perfumes in it. One thing my mum used to do(and i still do)is you could try putting some porridge oats into a bit of materiel(like a sock or a cloth)tie it at one end and soak him in the bath with that in it,it was always a brilliant way to help with my itchy skin. Having the bath too hot can also really aggravate sensitive skin. The cream i use and have been for ages is called Astral, however,a really good cream for after the bath is called Diprobase. If you mix that with some oil from vitamin C tablets it work a dream.

But believe me, don't use any creams containing perfumes or colouring, they will irritate his skin a lot more.Eczma, i have learned over the years, responds more to natural things, i only use steroid creams if desperate(ask your doctor about these
Reply:my daughter had really bad eczema and Johnsons soothing naturals lotion and body wash really helped her. Also another good lotion is Cetaphil which also has a body wash.
Reply:I would try just washing him with water for a while. The only thing soap really does is basically make water wetter..longer technical explanation to that but thats what it does. It breaks the surface tension of the water molecules to make it wetter..

use a clean cloth and no soap and see if the condition gets better.

You may also want to go to a health food/supply store and buy some type of natural organic soap. It is the chemicals in the soap that he is reacting to.

Some places are carrying more organic items now too if you do not have a health food store near you. GNC may aso carry something.
Reply:Stop giving him baths--switch to showers so he's not sitting in water and isn't sitting in soap. Water actually dries out skin (weird, I know) and many kids are sensitive to soap. My nephew loves the Aveeno lotions, we also use Vaseline on him when it's bad. He uses a regular bar of soap--the Johnson and Johnson no slip kind, Huggies baby shampoo, and his showers last two minutes or less. It's the only way we could keep his skin from getting itchy and we lotion him up before putting his clothes on. He also has eczema.
Reply:you could try more sensitive products for his skin; but if his skin is so irritated, i think that you must go to doctor and see what's the problem

Is it true that itchy skin is a symptom of kidney problems?

This is a general itchiness all over but no rash, spots or bites. I've heard that liver problems can cause an itchy skin, but kidneys too?

Is it true that itchy skin is a symptom of kidney problems?
They can, but you would have other symptoms and be rather ill.

Chances are you have an allergy to something.

The body getting too hot can also give these symptoms.

Keep checking for a rash or bites, sometimes they don't come up straight away.

If you are very concerned please visit your doctor
Reply:No...itchy skin has to do with the histamine in your body and your kidneys don't have anything to do with histamine.
Reply:not heard of that before but I know when i was young i had itchy skin quite alot and my nan used to give me Milk of Magnesia, which helped....at that time my nan told me that my blood was hot......not sure if thats true or not....will have to look into it :)

ooo just googled it...have a look at this website for more details
Reply:i think its liver problems that make you itch.My mum had jaundice and the itching drove her mad.
Reply:Yeh i get itchy skin aswell.. i dont mean to be outright but i get itchy on my chest and sometimes on my legs just after i have had sex... p***** me of sometimes and when i itch i go red... :S
Reply:Hi

YES - I had a kidney transplant a few years ago and when my kidneys failed - I had itchy skin - it was due to the excessive UREA in my system - If you are worried about kidney problems - don't listen to rumours - go see a doc and have an IP profile done on your blood.

Itchy skin could be anything - find out for sure what the problem is and then you are in a position to dealt with it on the basis of fact.

take care
Reply:hi,yes i have heard this as well it can be a symptom of kidney infection, but there are other symptoms as well.itchy skin can be from allergies and other things as well, check it out with your doc if you are worried.good luck.
Reply:Yes, My father needs a liver transplant and he itches like crazy. His doctor said its a symptom from his liver failing.

What can I do to relieve itchy skin due to drying?

I live in Northern British Columbia. The fall weather is lingering but the air is drying out steadily. The skin on my upper back and shoulders and back of my scalp is becoming itchy. We also have relatively hard water. I believe the salts in the water are being absorbed by my skin more with the drying atmospheric air, causing a bit of an alkali reaction. Whatever solution exists to this problem would probably have to neutralize this alkali bloom on the skin.

What can I do to relieve itchy skin due to drying?
if it's really bad, maybe you need to see a dermatologist. if you want to try at-home remedies first, then i would suggest buying either an in-shower conditioner for your skin (i think dove makes one, they work just like a hair conditioner). it's also important not to dry off right away, your skin needs moisture, so walk around and air dry, don't strip the water off with a towel. when you're mostly dry, moisturize with a lotion for dry skin, i suggest vaseline intense moisture lotion.
Reply:mousturize them with lotion or oil.
Reply:moisturize. lotion. etc
Reply:hydracordisone cream with 2%.....works like a gem...any drug store has it
Reply:use a emolient cream like keri lotion. it is a bit greasy at first but it will definitely help...

make sure you wear cotton against your skin, and dry off well after your shower. You might try a emolient soap like oilated aveeno, it will not dry out your skin.....

If you have a bathtub, once a week, fill the tub, put in some oil, ( baby or sofsyn) and soak for 15 min. pat your skin dry and apply your lotion....

you should be appling lotion on your body everyday after your showers....
Reply:Vaseline Intensive Rescue lotion for dry skin is just fabulous, amazing and I would know, I am in Kuwait at the moment!
Reply:put some baby oil in your bath water and when you get out put some moisturizing lotion on yourself...for your scalp you can give yourself a hot oil treatment and use a good condition...u can also get a good leave in conditioner for your hair that you just spray on and don't have to wash out...hope this helps!!!
Reply:Increase the humidity in the room you are living in... that will help.
Reply:just apply lotions (choose the one for very dry skin ) as often as you can...you can avoid this because this is climate you have in your country but at least it will ease the itchyness and lessen dryness.

Preventing skin problems caused by the harmful external environment.

1. Cures problem areas using powder of Active Aloe extract. Powder of Active Aloe extract provides an ideal environment for skin by strengthening homeostasis and vitalizing metabolism of skin.

So it cures problem areas effectively.

2. Moisturizing and protection effect. Botanical oil containing rich ceramide, lecithin, and a fatty acid moisturizes and protects skin from the harmful external environment.

3. Effect of skin protection and aroma therapy. Containing botanical essential oil, Eucalyptus, Lavender, Clary sage, Pine, Cypress, Rosemary, Cedawood, and botanical extracts. Reply:know that there are various factors that can be able to rob the moisture out of your body. and these are humidity, dry air, too much exposure to the sun and extreme cold weather. better try to have measures that can protect the skin from drying. adequate amount of water is needed to keep the skin hydrated. also, try using an all natural skin care moisturizer, this can help lock in moisture to the skin all day. avoid smoking and alcohol for they can dry out the skin. for more tips to be able to get rid of dry skin visit http://www.skinsosilky.com

use lubriderm or baby lotion
Reply:Your skin is probably very dry.

My skin gets so dry too---I itch on my legs, arms, back...the skin around my nails crack, they are quite painful.

Drink enough water and have a humidifier on.

I use Udderly Smooth cream. Lists only 4 things in its ingredients. Doesn't feel greasy.
Reply:Try a lotion/cream that has silicone in it. Also, maybe put a humidifier in your home, to add moisture to your surroundings. Also, are you drinking 8 - 8 oz. glasses of water per day? That should help. Take care.

Help me with my itchy skin please!?

Anyone have any good over the counter Products that relive itchy skin?

Going Crazy scratching all the time, mostly at night if anyone can relate. . .

Thanks!

Help me with my itchy skin please!?
I have to concur with hydrocortisone 1%. If this doesn't cure it then you need to see a doctor.
Reply:Gold Bond Medicated Lotion
Reply:Gold Bond Lotion. It's in a WHITE bottle, it's pricey, but it's fantastic...
Reply:cortaid intensive therapy anti-itch lotion
Reply:I can totally relate. There are no lotions that really work at all. I did however find relief with daily allergy treatment. I use Alavert. It's the same as Claritin.
Reply:You need Camomile Lotion, or something based on it.
Reply:Cortizone
Reply:Aveeno, itch relief
Reply:You should use Jergen's moisturising skin lotion. It makes the skin more smooth and calms irritation of the itch. After a while, the itch naturally goes away.
Reply:You can use calamine lotion it doesn't smell very good but it works.
Reply:Check out Aveeno; I think they have an oatmeal based product for either bathing or actual body wash, it's an old remedy for poison ivy and chicken pox.
Reply:itchy between the legs? I got something for you :))
Reply:Lots of people have sensitive, dry and itchy skin. Try taking an outmeal bath, or a bath with about 2-3 cups of apple cider vinegar in the wather, this will help restore the pH of your skin also make sure any lotions that you use don't have alcohol, fragrance or anything else that may be irritating your skin. I like olive oil as a moistureizer personally, it's all natural! Good luck
Reply:Get it checked out by a doctor. If its excema or dermititis then aqueous cream is great and try some antihistemine before bed as this can reduce the itching when you get warm in bed (my son has this). If its Psorisis then aqueaous cream again and use the sunbed - this will help clear up the patches of dried skin.
Reply:if it is due to try skin, you should try Curel extra moisturizing. It it the one with red on the bottle. It is great for try skin.
Reply:you've probably got scabies....itchy around feet hands, legs and stomach, particularly marked at night. You should get the cream for free at an STD clinic. Dont be embarrassed..its very common and you can get it from just holding hands with someone
Reply:It Could The Soap You Use. Laundry Soap. Thats What Your Iching. Do You Have Any Animals?
Reply:Try Lanacane Medicated Body Powder most chemists sell it. It`s 100% talc free and soothes itchy skin. Its recommended by dr`s to absorb wetness and provide a cushion of protection against further irritation.

Hope this helps .

My dog is constantly itchy, has reddened skin and hair thinning. Tried everything -any suggestions?

My dog has very itchy skin. She does not have hot spots. Many areas of her skin are red looking and her hair has become thin. She has been in and out of a cone for over a year. It seems to come and go a bit but we cannot figure out what it is or what to do. Have had her tested for everything including lupus. Tried antibiotics, steroids, antihistamines, different foods, no treats, not letting her go near grass, bathing with different shampoos.

Help! Any ideas?

My dog is constantly itchy, has reddened skin and hair thinning. Tried everything -any suggestions?
My sister's dog was the same - she used to rub eucalyptus oil into the skin and it cleared up. better ask Vet first though.
Reply:you should take her to the vet if you have not already cause they should kno what to do
Reply:Our German Shepherd experienced the same thing. We took her to multiple vets and we did the dips, steroids, injections, etc. for over a year. Finally, through a friend at work, we were told to try Brewer's Yeast pills. You can buy them at any drugstore for about 10 bucks for 100 pills. We have been giving her 2 pills a day for six years. She has a healthy coat of fur and has never had anymore skin issues. Give it a try. The pills provide Vitamin B and have no side effects.
Reply:What about a quality food with no grains? Grains are the number one cause of allergies in dogs, so a food like Innova Evo, Orijen, or Solid Gold would be good to try.
Reply:Did you have her tested for Mange?

Where on her body are these spots?

Have you had her allergy tested?

Do you add Salmon, Cod Liver, or Flax seed oils to her diet?

Maybe try that, or "Missing Link"

Put her on a RAW or home cooked diet if you can.
Reply:ask your vet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... I am so sorry if it is somthing that leaves your dog misrable.
Reply:If you have taken her to the vet and ruled out things like mange etc. then try fish oil tablets. They are available in most pet stores like PetsMart and PetCo. My black lab mix had terrible skin problems. After taking her to the vet and ruling out any real big healthy problems, he suggested fish oil tablets. We give them to her twice daily, and in few weeks her skin greatly improved. Now as long as she is one the fish oil, her skin is fine.

What is wrong with my skin? I have itchy skin that turns red almost immediately after scratching.?

For the last few months ( around the beginning of winter) I've been getting itchy skin that eventually turns into red blotches on my face. Usually my forehead, a little section on my face, and my neck, will all randomly get itchy at some point, usually like once a week, and almost immediately after scratching it turns into red blotches. Sometimes the rashes don't continue to itch after the first itch attack and sometimes they do. The rash on my forehead usually continuously itches and the rash on my neck doesn't usually itch after the first attack. Both of these rashes usually show up at the same time. What's the deal with this?

dry skin. use lotion or moisterizerr

I have really itchy skin!?!?

i have not changed any on my soap powder or soap or anything but every part of my skin is itchy, but there is no rash, however it is going a little red from the the scratching l! I just want to know why it itching so much, Its driving me crazy! Even my fingers and my ear lobes. It been form about 6pm last night and its not 11.30am.

does any1 have any ideas on what it could be? I am a 17yr old female. I have no pets. I am currently ttc child number 2. I am just trying to give you a list of things that could help u answer!

I have really itchy skin!?!?
sounds like a alergic reaction. Try some bendryl, if that doesn't help you need to see a doctor
Reply:just go to a dermatologist....... im sure it can help you there....
Reply:Well, winter time can bring very dry skin; my skin is very sensitive and I have a mild case of psoriasis which usually appears only in winter.

Anyway, really dry cold season skin can be a huge pain. Dry, red, itchy, flaky or dandruff-y in the eyebrows, hairline, scalp, etc. Here are some tips for you...

1. I'd first suggest a good moisturizer...Aveeno Oatmeal lotion is awesome stuff, and is wonderful for your skin. Plain old Vaseline is good too, put it on the especially itchy spots before bed.

2. Use chapstick. REAL chapstick, not glosses.

3. Buy a good conditioner and some moisturizing anti-dandruff shampoo (moisturizes and stops itching).

4. DO NOT ( I found this out from my doc) take super hot showers...they can dry out skin even in summer, and in the dry/cold season it gets really bad.

However, if you try some of these things and it's still bothering you, you may have a skin condition like psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis. Do any of those run in your family?

Be wary of allergic reactions too---those can be dangerous...did you eat anything odd? If it's acute and intense, a doctor or dermatologist might be your best bet.

Also, stress causes bad skin problems as well---breakouts, terrible itching, rashes, hives, splotchiness...have you been under a lot of stress, or are you particularly worried about something? Itchy skin is OFTEN a complaint of people who are anxious, stressed, or worried.

Hope some of that helps, and good luck!
Reply:Perhaps it's stress?

Possible lotions that you can use:

1) Vaseline is great, but if you don't like the texture, try to dab some cold water on the itchy skin and then put Vaseline on.

2) Aveeno Oatmeal Lotion comes in tiny bottles too which you can use if this is supposed to be temporary.

3) If this lasts, try Physiogel AI Cream. It's kind of expensive, but it is VERY VERY useful, and it also can prevent similar "itchy-skin" reactions in the future!

Go talk to your dermatologist if this lasts.

Oh, and STOP SCRATCHING! (That's just going to make things worse)

Epidural Steroid Injection & itchy skin??

I just got my 2nd ESI two days ago. my skin is very itchy. It didn't happen after the first ESI (it did disrupt my menstrual cycle though). Is this possible? Or is it the anesthsia causing the itch??

Epidural Steroid Injection %26amp; itchy skin??
If you ask any women who has had a kid they will most likely tell you that they had an attack of the itches when they were done delivering. The anesthsia in the epidural is what causes this. It passes within a few hours and is very common
Reply:i would guess the anesthesia. i got shots for a long time in my lower back. there are many people that get steroid shots to help with poison ivy and the such, (helps with the itching). i doubt it is what caused the itch. ive read more people can be allergic or sensitive to many of the "caine" (benzocaine, lidocaine ect.) . if it is bothersome or becomes worse, i would discuss it with the dr or the nurses. they can maybe change or switch to a different medication

Lab Cross with Itchy Skin.?

I'm having a common sense problem with my significant other.

We brought our lab cross dog to the cottage this weekend. She had just got a bath last week because we had been at the cottage last weekend as well, and she had got very dirty. She gets a lot of sand in her coat and just itches almost constantly.

After this weekend at the cottage, she is itching very badly and I told my S.O she needs a bath. He is going into a fit saying he has done research that says you cant bathe a dog that often, yada yada.

First of all, labs are notorious for itchy skin. Second of all, the dog is dirty, she needs a flippin bath.

AM I WRONG? Should we let her itch and scratch like a maniac because she's already had two baths this month? Will giving her another bath to clean off the sand and crap really make her worse in the long run!!?

Seriously, this seems really common sense to me, but does anyone have any info that I can show my S.O so he can stop arguing with me.

Lab Cross with Itchy Skin.?
Hi there

Well you can tell him My neighbors Across the street spend their summer camping @ the lake and they have a female lab

They do come home quite often as we live 10 minutes from the lake but Lady is given a bath almost weekly as she gets full of sand and she is itchy also and My neighbor is a clean fanatic and cannot stand the Sand in her carpet in the house so before Lady is allowed in the house she is bathed so A bath once a week will not hurt your Dog Just make sure you use Johnson's Baby Shampoo as to not irate her skin any more than it is already iterated

Good Luck to you
Reply:Make sure she doesn't have fleas or tics. That will cause her to scratch constantly to the point of damaging her skin. Use a good flea %26amp; tic repellent http://www.1800petmeds.com/pdetail.asp?S... and a collar.

Try a nutritional supplement. This one is added to your dog's food. http://www.marketamerica.com/PULSE99/ind...
Reply:She needs a bath. She is dirty and got into something that made her itchy, possibly sand fleas or just the sand itself.

In general, you shouldn't bathe a dog too frequently but you obviously bathe a dirty or itchy dog.

This site seems to make the case:

http://www.mediarelations.k-state.edu/WE...
Reply:Labs tend to have dry skin, and bathing them too often dries their skin out more, but if they need a bath, don't just let them run around smelling up the place. There are shampoos for dogs that will help keep their skin from drying out so badly, like an oatmeal shampoo. Also, if you put some fish oil on their food regularly, it helps keep their skin from being so dry in the first place. There are other, more expensive, food additives you can get at the pet shop, but our vet said fish oil is very good, and even cooking oil would be better than nothing.
Reply:i would bathe her

benedryl really helps

even the cheap stuff from the dollar store
Reply:If your dog is itching, she may have an allergy and you should get some medicine for it. (OTC human allergy pills are usually ok, but check with your vet) Your SO is right, you shouldn't bathe your dog too often, but if she is dirty, then obviously clean her. First you should try brushing her to get the dirt/sand off and then check her skin for rashes or irritation. Good luck!

I have really dry/itchy skin. Is there anything out there.?

I am wanting to know if there is a vitamin or something that promotes healthier skin, because currently my skin is dry/cracking/itchy and there seems to be nothing I can do to help it.

I have really dry/itchy skin. Is there anything out there.?
Good old fashion petroleum jelly or cocoa butter does the trick, along with lots of drinking water.
Reply:cocoa butter
Reply:aveeno
Reply:oatmeal lotion for itchy dry skin
Reply:Vitamin E is good for the skin. I use Aquaphor and it works wonders!
Reply:Vitamin E is really good for skin that is dry, and Aloe as well, and if its a rash cortizone sould clear it right up.
Reply:there are a lot of creams that u apply on the skin to help...and use a lot of sea water(salted water)..
Reply:There is a salve (that I believe comes from Korea) that is supposed to work wonders. It's called "Cream of Sum Yungai", ask about it the next time you visit an Asian store.
Reply:64 ounces of water a day will start you off, also try eucerin cream its expensive kind of but its great
Reply:Try one of the hydrating products--stay away from the heavy oils. I use a product called Biotherm, but its expensive. There are a number of hydrating lotions on the market that are cheaper. It may also be that you need to drink more water or it could be an actual skin condition that requires professional help.

You may want to see a dermatologist if the condition continues.
Reply:Check out Kiehl's (Creme de Corps). I bought some for my girlfriend this Christmas with the same problem and she was very happy within 2 days. It is unscented and meant to be applied at night (a bit heavy) according to the Kiehl's saleslady, so I don't think it matters if it is for a male or female. Sak's carries them along with Kiehl's stores - pricey though. Maybe ebay for a good deal?
Reply:Vaseline is always great. There are also many other products for various parts of the body such as hands and feet. I am not sure if its the product itself that is so important, but rather the manner and frequency of application. For example, if you have dry skin on your hands, you can get gloves to wear to bed each night. You lather on moisturizer and then put the gloves on and wear them as you sleep. They have the same system for socks/feet.

I would go to a good drug store and as the pharmacist for some good products. Then use them as often as you can unless there are side effects.
Reply:you haven't tried everything yet i bet because eucerin really works you can get it from any drug store and also nivea skin cream works wonders to try it they both work better than any kind of lotion you can ever buy i know because i have used both of them on my daughter's eczema and if it works for that you can just imagine what it will do for you good luck
Reply:the best thing you can do is visit the dermatologist
Reply:A homoeopathic Medicine

Reply:I'd say Carley's Clear %26amp; Smooth Natural Soap Bar %26amp; moisturiser!!! It's the BEST!! Everybody LOVE it!!! cuz it's ADDICTIVE %26amp; really makes you feels CLEAN!! It seems to cure many skin problem indluding eczema, acne, dermatitis, dry skin %26amp; many more!

Carley's Clear %26amp; Smooth Moisturiser

http://cgi.ebay.com/The-best-MOISTURIZER...

Carley's Clear %26amp; Smooth Natural Soap Bar (5)

http://cgi.ebay.com/NATURAL-SOAP-The-bes...

But the bar is SOO big!!! It's 6 ounces per bar!! How big is that?? I suggest you to try their moisturiser (if it's for the body, try their body lotion at their eBay Store) because you'll get FREE 1 bar soap!!! You WILL love their products as much as I do!!

And don't forget, oatmeal bath!!

Here's how:

You'll need a blender, food processor or coffee grinder and 1 cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of milk (or more according to your liking), 2 tablespoon of honey %26amp; olive oil each. You can use instant oatmeal (unflavored), quick oats or slow cooking oats- all work equally as well. For babies, you'll only need about 1/3 cup per bath.

Blend or process the oats on the highest setting until you have a very fine, consistent powder. To test the colloid property of the oats, stir 1 tablespoon oats into a glass of warm water. If the oats readily absorb the water and give it a milky look and a silky feel, you've blended long enough.

Giving the bath:

Sprinkle the oats into a tub of running water and stir the water with your hand several times to ensure even distribution. Add milk, honey %26amp; olive oil.

Feel along the bottom of the tub for clumps and break up any you find.

Get into the tub carefully as the oats %26amp; oils will make the tub even more slippery than usual. Allow yourself to soak in the tub for 15-20 minutes and pat dry with a soft towel rather than rubbing. Slather moisturiser.

You can use this bath once or twice a day.

If it's your face, do an oatmeal facial. Mix oatmeal with milk to a paste. Add a teaspoon (or more to get the right consistency) of honey. Apply it to your face %26amp; wait for about 20-30 minutes. Wash off with warm water. Follow with a splash of cold water. Pat dry! Apply moisturiser.

GOOD LUCK!!

First off you dog has allergies(as a dachshund owner I am a pro at this). You need to have your dog seen at the vet and given a cortisone shot. Doxies are world known for seasonal allergies, and over shampooing will not help!! By shampooing 3-4 times a week can dry the skin out which will make matters worse. A doxie naturally produces a oil that they need on their skin.

Take your pup to the vet ask for a cortisone shot for allergies(this will last a while) they may also give you some meds for secondary infections caused by all the open wounds from scratching this normally clears up quickly.

Start giving your pup 1/2 a benedryl with a meal(only 1 time daily is needed), and switch them to a sensitive skin formula dog food such as Pro Plan for sensitive skin. Keep up the Omega fish oils!!

Trust me this helps. My lil doxie cost me every year for this same thing!!
Reply:Well, it certainly sounds like you are taking excellent care of your dog and have all the bases covered with the oil and gentle shampoo. I hate to resort to this but you should take him to the vet. Also, see what the pedigree dog food consists of in the ingredients. Dog food should have at least 26% protein and 18% fat in it. Protein from chicken or turkey is best.
Reply:go to a store and but some anti itch spray...I don't know if it will work and he probably won't like it when you put it on but it's worth a try
Reply:Call a vet and ask what you can do. Usually you should be able to ask questions over the phone that way you won't have to spend money on a visit if it may not be necessary. I called and asked the vet what I could do when my dog had an upset stomach and bowls and they gave me remedies to try and I didn't have to go in for a visit. My dog scratches a lot. It is not as bad as you describe what your dog is doing but he does it. I take him to be groomed every 4 weeks and he is also a house dog (Chihuahua). I feed him Purina puppy child since he is still a pup (10months old). He only goes outside to do his business and have a few minutes of play time. But he still scratches a lot and I know he doesn’t have fleas. Maybe you can dry changing the shampoo that you wash him with. The oatmeal shampoo could be drying his skin out.

Good luck and keep us updated with the results.
Reply:Quit using dog shampoo. Get some human shampoo and conditioner. You may also be bathing him too much and washing his natural oils off him. Also people benedryl... childrens for him and check with your vet about the dosage, they will ususally tell you on the phone. If this doesn't help then get him in to the vet he could have major allergies going on.
Reply:I was going to suggest fish oil...so good job! Less baths would most likely help. I'd also try just applying olive oil to his coat (obviously not much...and certainly not harmful when he grooms)

GL!
Reply:First make sure where he is scratching isn't hot if it is take him to the vet. My whippet was having dry skin problems and the vet said to stay away from the liquid drops because they aren't as affective. She told me to make sure I wasn't bathing my dog more than 1x/month and to get chewable tablets that have fish oils with the most of both Omega 6 and Omega 3. Just like she said after a month there was practically no dander and barely any shedding. I got them from PetSmart and they worked perfectly. If that doesn't work it's probably an allergy to carpet cleaner, flea and tick liquids, soap, smoke, dirt, who knows...
Reply:there is a horse shampoo called "main n' tail" my dog had the same thing. there is a shampoo and conditioner i did this to my dog his coat is the best i have ever seen it. It's soft shiny and pretty. you can get this shampoo at walmart for about 6 dollars it expensive but it is worthit and it's 32 ozs.

hope i could help
Reply:our dog had dry skin that itched our vet told us to cook her 3 scrambled eggs every week. cook it w/ pam not butter. the natural oils in the eggs help her skin and she loves them!!

Korean Ginseng is great for my low blood pressure and stamina, but I get itchy skin, and since i scratch em so much it then turns to rash. So what herb can i take with the ginseng that helps with this problem and still allows for ginseng to do it's work.

I get itchy skin when I take Ginseng, what herb can I take to counter that?
Try coca tea instead of ginseng it is also great for blood preasure and great for stamina

Reply:Don't take Ginseng. You are thinking like an aleopathic physician, just treating the symptoms. If you have an allergic reaction to an herb, stop at once.

Hypotension can be caused by several things. You need to look into the root cause. Some possibilities are: adrenal gland failure; tuberculosis; myocardial infarction; anemia; infection; et.al.

Meanwhile, some alternatives to Ginseng are: Cayenne pepper, Kola nut, Nettles, Rosemary.

Diet: eat potassium rich foods, citrus, bananas, potatoes, nuts, oatmeal. Use cayenne pepper at the table. Season food with ginger root. Tonic Tea: mix equal parts Betony, Rosemary, Alfalfa, Peppermint; put 1-2 teaspoons to each cup boiling water; infuse 15 minutes; drink 1 cup 2-3 times daily. Avoid eggs.

Supplements: Kelp, Garlic, Multivitamin, Zinc; Brewer's Yeast.

Use oil of Camphor (circulatory stimulant) as an inhalant.
Reply:licorice tea lowers blood pressure also

i would recomend you stop taking that ginseng as your allergic to it and the rash and allergy is only going to keep getting worse
Reply:May be you are allergic to Ginseng. For low blood pressure or hypotension, you need to have more salt intake.

Some homeopathic remedies:

Use 6X - 30C of the following remedies:

Crataegus

Oleander

Laurocrasis

Eat smaller, more frequent meals. If you typically experience hypotension after meals, try eating smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day. Also, find out how much salt and fluid intake your doctor recommends. Restricting them may contribute to hypotension.

Sleep on a slant. The way you sleep may also be important in helping control hypotension. Try sleeping with the head end of your bed elevated 8 to 12 inches above the foot end (use concrete building blocks). On rising, sit up slowly and dangle your feet over the edge of the bed for a few moments before standing.

Home Remedies for Low Blood Pressure

Soak 32 small raisins in a ceramic bowl full of water over night. Chew them one by one first thing in the morning. Chew well and drink the water also.

Soak 7 almonds in water over night. Peel them and grind to a smooth paste. Add in a glass of milk and boil. Drink warm.

Crush 10-15 holy basil leaves (tulsi) and strain through a clean muslin cloth. Mix with 1 tsp honey. Have it the first thing in the morning.

Roast and grind heeng (asafoetida) and take with some water.

Drink a cup of beet juice twice daily for a week or more.

Soak 3/4 cup liquorice root in 4 cups water. After two hours boil and steep for five minutes. Add this to bathwater.

Combine a teaspoon of honey with the juice from 10 or 15 tulsi (holy basil) leaves and drink.
Reply:Ginseng is a popular herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine, of which I am a student. I've only begun studying herbs, but in TCM it is very rare to take a single herb--most remedies are formulations containing multiple herbs in particular combinations.

If the Ginseng is causing an itchy rash, you are taking too much or are allergic, or the herb and your lifestyle/constitution are incompatible. I would advise you to consult someone with TCM herbal training to smooth out the formula for you.
Reply:Any medication or alternative remedy that causes skin irritation should be discontinued!
Reply:I have been taking magnesium caps for a few years now and love them. They are similar to ginseng in that they can help increase brain function, it also is very good for your body in many other ways as well. Read below:

"Magnesium is an essential nutrient, meaning that your body needs it for healthy functioning. It is found in significant quantities throughout the body and used for numerous purposes, including muscle relaxation, blood clotting, and the manufacture of ATP (adenosine triphosphate, the body's main energy molecule). Need solution for dry and itchy skin!?

Need solution for dry and itchy skin!?

I have very dry and itchy skin ever since I moved to Dallas and have tried everything.... I have used moisturizers, creams etc ....nothing seems to give me total relief. Can someone give me a solution for this.

Need solution for dry and itchy skin!?
Hi Saran, Dallas has a humid subtropical climate, dry winds from the north and west in the summer and low temperatures in the winter, exposure to excessive wind, low temperatures in the winter, sun, cosmetics, chemicals, cheap soap and alcohol based skin products can dryed out your the skin. If the oil glands of the skin can't produce enough oil to keep the skin lubricated, dehydration will occur, leading to the effects of dry skin.

A deficiency in vitamin A and the various B vitamins can also contribute to dry skin.

One of the best treatments for dry skin is to take a bath or shower in the evening and then apply a thin layer of coconut oil over your entire body. This will help to moisturise and soften your skin throughout the night and the following day.

Coconut oil is one of the best substances for the skin. It moisturises, it soothes, it even heals minor abrasions and is great on dry, chapped lips.

Also, Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables every day. Apples, peaches, pears, bananas, grapes, cherries, plums etc are all great for your skin.

Reply:cocoa butter
Reply:safflower oil
Reply:I actually mixed my fav. lotion with vaseline, that's what helped me out. Good luck
Reply:Make an appointment with a dermatologist and he or she

can prescribe you a prescription lotion.
Reply:Ok, drink 2 much water over 2 litter per day in Summer, and at least 1 litter in winter plus use NIVEA.
Reply:dont use soap use sorbolene as a body wash and when you get out use it to moisturise too.

Bio Oil is great we have it Australia not sure if you have it there though... google it and see if you can get it there.

Take vitamins I thik its vitamin E you need and maybe zinc and omega 3 or eat foods with that in it.
Reply:Try soaking in an oatmeal and cornstarch bath with tepid(lukewarm) water for approximately 15-25 minutes or until the water starts to cool and becomes chilly. Then pat dry and immeadiately apply Moisture lotion to the damp skin. Pat the lotion starting at the foot and work upward. Or you can try Aveeno bath soaks for dry and itchy skin.
Reply:go see a dermatologist. that should do the trick.
Reply:Assuming that your moisturizers and creams were based on natural ingredients (no mineral oil) you may not get a topical solution that helps very much more. They should have a base of either animal fat or vegetable oil like avocado or olive. Soap, also should be made without petroleum products. Mineral oil (baby oil) is emollient but actually damages our skin.

Internally, many people get skin repair by taking an Omega-3 fatty acid supplement. Most of these are made from cold-water fish. Also helps to use flax seed oil as a salad dressing daily.

If you moved from West Coast, you should know that most other municipal water treatments use chlorine to purify the water, which aggravates dry skin. And Dallas is hot, so you may be showering more often.
Reply:It's difficult because you said "nothing" gives you relief and that you have tried "everything" ......

Have you tried Bag Balm? It comes in a green metal tin and is used primarily for medicinal use on animals but is now used mainstream also on humans.

I began to use it years ago when i was a C.N.A. , (it was recommended by the professor ), and well now i use it when i have major skin problems and it seems to heal me right up.

You should be able to find a tin at your local drug store or even your grocery store in the drug aisle.

I left a couple links in case you aren't familiar with the product.
Reply:After showering or bathing, rub baby oil all over your body and then towel dry. You'll have silky skin in just a few days.
Reply:You said you had "very dry and itchy skin ever since I moved to Dallas." Sounds like your enviroment hasn't been agreeing with your liquid intake (as a sign of dehydration is itchiness of the skin). Try increasing your intake and see if it helps.
Reply:safflower oil just out of the shower/bath, while your skin is still wet. As a fellow Dallas-ite (lol) I know the air here can be harsh. Drinking plenty of water will also help considerably. Try thicker creams rather than lotions. Olive oil is also a good suggestion.

Smoking and caffeine also dehydrate the skin, so consider cutting down on these.
Reply:Have you been to a dermatologist? What does your skin look like? Is there any kind of rash, dry flakes, or fine lines like thread veins? It sounds like it could be any number of things from allergy to dermatitis or even scabies. For instance, have you had the water in your shower analysed? Perhaps it contains an allergy factor for you.

There are a number of things you can use for each of the above conditions, but not much can be safely suggested without a diagnosis.

If it is just a matter of extra hydration, you can make a cream that will leave a nice fine coat of film that will not allow hydration to leave your skin: take a couple of tsp of Evening Primrose oil, a couple of tsp of Rose water or Green tea and blend them with a couple of tsp of lanolin. Keep this refrigerated and apply topically as and when needed. If you're allergic to wool, forget the lanolin and the Rose water; just use the Evening Primrose oil. Other oils that are great for the skin are Wheatgerm (but don't use more that 5% in dilution with another oil of your choice), Jojoba, Camelia, Apricot kernel.

The itching may be relieved with some Chamomile Oil, especially if you add 5-6 drops of Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia or Lavandula officinallis) for every ounce. Do not exceed that amount because I don't know your medical history.

You should also try changing your soap/shampoo/shower gel. Go for biologically certified products - I don't know any in your country. And make sure you drink enough water (8-10 glasses per day).

But the best of all would be to consult a dermatologist.
Reply:eat 3 to 4 avocados a day every day..you will never have dry skin again......it's amazing!
Reply:lotion with peppermint

Dog with itchy skin?

My dog just bites, chews and scratches all day. No fleas, we've always had him on Frontline. No mange, hot spots, ring worm... nothing like that. He seems to really focus on his feet and groin. Is there a product out there that is soothing to itchy skin for dogs? No shampoos because he is arthritic and I don't get him wet... help!

Dog with itchy skin?
In dogs, foot chewing = allergies

Allergies to something in the air (pollen, dust, etc) or elsewhere (food, grass, carpet, dog bed, etc etc).

Your vet can help figure it out.
Reply:He could have a thyroid problem that causes his skin to be itchy. Just to be sure, I would take him to the vet. Good luck!
Reply:Sulfadene works really well for skin irritation - nasty smelling, but very effective. Apply w/cotton balls. Can be found in the grocery store.
Reply:you might have an infection so you can either go see a doctor or buy something at the pharmacy
Reply:Allergies? it is possible he could be allergic to his food. Check with your vet.
Reply:Giving him a bath shouldn't hurt him...It would acually feel good. It is exactly what I do when I'm hurting. Just be gentle.
Reply:It's allergies. You can try to figure out what's causing it, but you should take him to a vet. They have special shampoo for that with antibiotics in it and will put him on allergy meds. He'll scratch and chew himself until he's bleeding and it will get infected.
Reply:What does being arthritic and getting wet have to do with eachother? My dog has both arthritis and chronic hot-spots. So lots of baths. My vet has never once said anything about not bathing her (in fact - just the opposite) - so you may want to check with your vet on that as perhaps shes just dirty!

Otherwise, try tea-tree oil. You can find it at most pet supply stores or on the web.
Reply:I don't see how a bath would hurt him, especially if you bathe him in warm water. It may even help his joints, my old dog 13 year old, loves a hot bath. But, that not what you asked... Why not try some baby powder on him, not talc, use the corn starch type. You could also try some of the hydocortisone creams to soothe that itch.
Reply:i suggest you talk to your vet on this one. your dog could have developed allergies,or some tyoe of dermatitis. there are various products out there, depending on what the problem is. some people have had good results using natural remedies and vitamins. my german shepherd ended up on steroids. it stopped her itching, but caused her to pee in her sleep!
Reply:WOW! I logged on because of the same reason. I saw your question and thought "I am not alone with a crazy dog" All she does is chew and bite....mostly her knuckles on her front paws, but tonight I noticed that her tail is chewed on both sides. I'm with you...HELP OUR DOGS! I hope you get an answer for both of us. Good Luck!
Reply:He could be allergic to his food - try a food with no grains. Fish oil in low doses can help soothe dry skin.
Reply:My ****** spaniel had terrible skin problems when I got her. She was forever itching and scratching. The vet thought it was mites, but the treatment he gave didn't work. We never had fleas so it wasn't that either. I finally ended up switching her food to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul and within a few days her problems were gone! It ended up she was allergic to corn and wheat products, and now that its out of her diet we have no more problems!!!!!
Reply:try taking to a good vet or clinic its cheaper to. or go to petsmart and ask them Try skin so soft by avon and maybe some omega 3 and fish oil pills i here they work really well..good luck

Fever and Itchy Skin?

I have had a week from hell! My infant was hospitalized with RSV, daddy is a truck driver so my 3 year old and I were stuck in the hospital for 5 days. The morning of our discharge (yesterday) my 3 year old woke up with a temp of 101.4. I have been giving him tylenol and motrin. So now he has no fever. But he started complaining tonight after his bath that his skin is itchy. I am so worried. Any Ideas???

Fever and Itchy Skin?
He most likely has Roseola,it starts with a high fever that drops and then the next day you see a rash all over the body.It can be very uncomfortable so talk to his doc about benadryl. This is a very common virus that most kids have as a baby or toddler.
Reply:eczema, could be the itcy problem, since he just got out of the bath. My daguhter has it and she cant use bubble bath, and has to use dove soap. not sure about the fever. but I would take him to the drs.
Reply:Bring him back to the hospital. Asking for advice isn't a good idea on the internet. Only a qualified doctor can help.

Does his doctor know he has such a high fever?
Reply:Hard to tell - you should see the pediatrician if he is still complaining of itching, has a fever %26gt; 101.5. Some people are allergic to motrin - any relation of his motrin to the itching. Sometimes warm temperatures (his bath) or dry skin can cause itching. See if lotion helps.
Reply:you might want to get him to the ER he could be having a reaction from something is it blister like could be chickenpox
Reply:If your three year old has itchy skin it could be an allergic reaction to something. Maybe something in the bath water or laundry soap or even something in the hospital blanket. I wouldn't be too worried about it unless he is still complaining about it in a day or two or if any other symptoms arise. Doctors say not to panic about a fever unless it reaches 103 or lasts for more than a day when giving meds to break it. Sometimes a mild fever is a good thing. It means his body is fighting something so unless the fever spikes or lasts through tomorrow don't worry about that.
Reply:The first thing that popped in my mind is scarlett fever. My daughter is just now getting over it. It is essentially strep throat with a rash. The rash starts around the neck or face and may itch. So, if he has a fever, sore throat and itchy that is a sign of scarlett fever. Make sure you get him treated asap!
Reply:does he have red spots developing

if he does it could be the chicken poxes
Reply:sounds like eczma or psorisis, maybe just dry skin but especially with it being winter young children are prone to itchy skin problems. watch him for bumps if he hasn't had chicken pox vaccine though. i am only 21 (they didn't have the vaccine when i got it) but i remember getting it when i was 7, i had a feaver that made my eyes feel like they were burning out of my head. they thought i was just getting a cold and itchy b/c i have eczma. I got them so bad they got in my mouth and throat and i couldn't eat anything for 2 weeks, maybe it will turn out to be a bug bite but if he gets bumps please take him to the doctor to be sure, it can be deadly to him and your infant.

good luck.

Use a hairbrush. It works really good. r maybe some itch creme... or a shower? JK about that last part. But I would really try a hairbrush.
Reply:Scratch with a spoon made of wood.
Reply:I used to bite my nails.

I soon discovered why God made hair brushes.

Pregnant and itchy skin?

im pregnant and have been experincing really bad itchy skin especially when i go to bed on a night has any one else experienced this during pregnancy? thanks

i am 12 weeks.

Pregnant and itchy skin?
That's the skin around your belly stretching slowly that's making you itch. Try putting on some intensive lotion every night to stop the itching and to prevent stretch marks.
Reply:Dry skin can result from the skin stretching. Also, your need for fluids increases during pregnancy, and if you don't up your water intake, dry skin can be aggravated.
Reply:Only because of the dry skin. Try drinking more water and putting on some lotion. If it's something other than dry skin make sure to let your doctor know.
Reply:ive never been pregnant before, but ive heard that its because the skin is stretching. is it on your stomach? you may be getting stretch marks already.
Reply:Yeah... my sister couldnt sleep because of it... I wasnt too bad. Go to the store and get Bag Balm. It's extra thick.. moisturizing. Maybe try cold creme, too
Reply:Yep, I have itchy belly, back, arms, legs, breasts, everything. I use cocoa butter lotion. It works for the itch and it's supposed to help with stretchmarks. Good luck.
Reply:I'm sure it's absolutely fine, and itchy skin is very common in pregnancy but *please* get it checked as gestational itching can be a sign of liver problems caused by pregnancy. It's rare but I think it would be worth getting checked out by your doctor or midwife, just to rule anything out and make sure it is just normal pregnancy itchy skin.
Reply:Giiiiiiiirllllllllll, get that lotion on there! ASAP. This is your skin getting drier and stretching. It will itch when it's stretching, but because it is getting colder outside, ofcourse it will itch extra.

Just make sure you are lathering on that lotion, cocoa butter, vitamin E, etc....to try an help as much as possible.
Reply:It's actually a side effect or symptom of pregnancy - it could be because of stretching skin but also just because of the pregnancy because people get it everywhere including their scalp!! I have a spot on my leg right at my hip that constantly itches - and I have dry skin everywhere!! I didn't have this with my first but this time I sure got it!! There are some super moisturizing creams that work - they can cost extra but well worth it.
Reply:Do your best not to scratch as it will result in stretch marks from breaking the elastin down in your skin. Slather on as much moisturizer as you can stand, and although I said it before, it bares repeating:

Do your best to avoid scratching.
Reply:Could be your kidneys get checked out.
Reply:yes!! this happens to me too!! I can't sleep if i don't scratch.. But it's not only on my belly, also on my arms %26amp; legs.. I don't know what it is.. but you're not alone =P

God Bless
Reply:Let me tell you I got a pregnancy rash in the 7 month of my pregnancy with my daughter. Nothing soothed it! It wasnt due to stretched skin. My MD said some women get it. It is common but awful! I had it from my neck to my knees! Nothing they gave me helped. Then with my son it started to come on around 4 months and I panicked! Talked to my pharmacist and she said to try Aveeno mentholated lotion for very dry skin. It is a great lotion but the menthol helped with the itch. I tried it and it worked! Any time I started to itch I used it and it went away. I highly recommend it! It was worth the $6.00! Good Luck!!!
Reply:I have the same problem, I thought it may of been my washing powder but its just the skin stretching. Its only serious if its really bad and localised as in hands and feet, but ive had itchy legs for a few weeks now, the only thing I find that works is making sure my clothing is loose and sometimes not wearing anything to bed as its worse if something touches my skin. If you get really concerned call the DR as it can also be a sign of a liver problem, but this is usually in much later pregnancy! Good luck x
Reply:DON'T SCRATCH!!!! I have stretch marks all over my stomach, arms, boobs and legs due to scratching while i was pregnant with my son. Just moisturize a lot. It's natural to be itchy, as much as it sucks.
Reply:Yes that is normal it is due to the skin stretching.

I find that using Eucerin Calming Cream has been a big help. Your skin could be itchy also due to dehydration, try increasing your water intake.

Fever and Itchy Skin?????

Fever and Itchy Skin?????
give him alittle bendryl, but call ur doctor and don't take any chances, also keep the baby away incase it ischickenpox or measles. good luck and god bless because it is so hard when ur babies are sick
Reply:He could be allergic to the motrin. Does he have a rash?
Reply:Poor mom! Just one sick kid can wipe you out!

If it was after his bath...could he have had a reaction to what you bathed him with? Especially with keeping the heat on this time of year, it dries skin out and makes it more sensitive.
Reply:If your infant was diangosed with RSV, have you been tested for hepatitis c???? Just curious as I had HCV and when my son was a newborn he had RSV...and they (docs and scientists) might think theres a link....((not to all cases, but some)).

As for your 3 year old, usually itchy skin is liver or kidney related-due to allergy of some sort. However, since there is fever present, he might be in early signs of chicken pox...has he had the vaccine? (if so recently??)

What do you recommend for itchy and sensitive skin?

I just brought Gentle Naturals lotion for my itchy skin and I am wondering if anyone tried this? It's for babies but I thought it would be safe to be used for my skin since it's really sensitive. If not, are there any great products out there good for daily use for itchy/red/sensitive skin?

What do you recommend for itchy and sensitive skin?
I have very sensitive skin when it comes to dry winter air and the sun, and Goldbond Medicated lotion helps a lot
Reply:Aveeno
Reply:i havent tried the gentle naturals range, but if you have really sensitive skin try qv cream/wash as it really works well, you shouldn't break out at all look for things that are soap free or low ph levels.
Reply:My skins is very sensitive as well... I've never used Gentle Naturals but I have heard that it works. My fav lotion is goat milk. Smooth, goes a long way, and is very natural and never hurts my skin. The lady I buy it from makes it herself (like, owns the goats and everything!) and makes then very full of fragrance. Very enjoyable. And, I have a nasty habit when I'm sweating, I wipe my upper lip on my shirt sleeve. That ALWAYS hurts my skin but it's a habit. Anyway, i use a bit of lotion right below my nose and it stops the stinging and doesn't cause pimples.
Reply:I recommend SARNA... a topical lotion that really relieves skin itch. I use it because my skin is quite sensitive. It works.

Is an itchy skin rash a side effect of consuming fish oil Omega 3 supplements?

My face and neck get an itchy dry skin rash. This started around the time I started taking the fish oil supplements. The question is that is this really a side effect of the supplements? I've read and read on the internet and have not found that to be any of the listed side effects. The sad thing is that in every other respect the supplements have been fantastic. My depression is mostly gone and I sleep somewhat better. But this rash is driving me crazy! Although cream does help a bit.

Do you have any suggestions for me? Is flax seed oil a real alternative to fish oil or are the benefits of flax more limited?

Appreciate input, thanks.

Is an itchy skin rash a side effect of consuming fish oil Omega 3 supplements?
Hmm.. sounds like it might be an allergic reaction to the supplements... I dont think that it's a common side effect but it definately could be for you if your body does not expect it. For depression you might want to try a B vitamin complex or yes another source of Omega's is Flaxseed oil... or Evening Primrose Oil
Reply:Possibly your supplement contains something you're allergic to: soy, milk, wheat, gluten, etc. Check the label. I have done lots of research on fish oil in the past and can not think of any reason why you should be breaking out. Flax oil would not be a good alternative, b/c the omega 3 ALA does not convert well to EPA %26amp; DHA. Flax seed oil and flax seed can still be beneficial to your health, but not as a substitute to fish oil.

Dog's Itchy Skin?

My dog always get very itchy skin in the winter time, he is a german shepard with long hair. What can I do to help him, he is constantly scratching. NO FLEAS, NOTHING! I have given him a bath in moisturizing dog shampoo, and I dont think it helped, ANY IDEAS?

Dog's Itchy Skin?
My sheltie also has allergies and I've found that mixing about a tablespoon of olive oil into her food works wonders. (Granted, I don't actually measure it, I pour a glop of it into a large ziplock bag and toss her kibble in it until it's evenly coated. Like a salad. I'd estimate it to be about a tablespoon, though.) I started giving my akita the same treatment and she's got a healthier, prettier coat and she's not itching as much either. And both of them lick the bowl clean.

Benadryl works as well. The sheltie normally gets a half a pill, but the akita gets a whole one. I'd ask your vet about that one, though. The dosage would vary according to the size of the dog.
Reply:I sympathise with you. You could try tree tea oil. I had a Sheltie and after numerous tests we found out he had a stack of allergies, house dust, mites, pollen grass to name a few. Thankfully we had him insured but every month he had to visit the vet for an injection and that was £30. Unfortunately your best bet is to take your dog to the vet or the PDSA and try and get an answer
Reply:It probably is allergies as you have already been told.

You could try changing his food and also add some fish oil or a can of tuna packed in oil to his diet a couple times a week. Try brushing him daily maybe even twice a day to keep anything in his hair from reaching his skin.Brushing will also rid him of the dead skin which will cause itching.

Hope this helps you and your friend. Good luck.
Reply:My dog has the same problem. My vet says she's got allergies(possibly to food). If your dog only gets it in the winter its probably a seasonal allergie. You could try changing his food to a sensitive skin formula or adding omega 3%26amp;6 to his regular food. My vet has told me that food made of salmon and potatoes also releaves allergies. If you want really fast relief ask your vet about "Prednisone". Its cortozone pills that get rid of the itch almost instantly...they work wonders for my dog. The pills have some side effects (drinking and peeing excessively) and you shouldn't keep them on it for long periods of time, but I find if I give a quarter of one to my dog about twice a month she doesn't itch/scratch.

But I'm pretty sure adding the right vitamins/oils to your dogs food should help him.
Reply:If it is only in the winter time, it might be dry skin. How often do you give him a bath? If you bathe him too often it can dry his skin out. We only give our rottie a bath once a month, if she needs it.

Extremely Itchy, Dry skin.?

Ok, I get different answers from different drs, so I'm going to ask for your advice. What is the best lotion and soap for very dry, itchy, skin???? I'm tired of wasting money for products that don't work or I don't like?

Extremely Itchy, Dry skin.?
I get eczema from time to time so I know what you are going through. It itches and burns but don't itch it. I use All laundry detergent, the type with no perfume or dye, that helps. Get goat milk soap, it's very mild and smells good, won't irritate. Get real aloe vera, at the health food store, it's pure there, put that on when you have an outbreak. After your shower, which should only be luke warm, not too hot, use grapeseed oil instead of lotion, it is wonderful, soaks in fast and makes your skin so smooth. Lotions are too thick, just stay with the oil. Good luck.
Reply:Go to a reputable herb shop and get some Tea Tree Oil and use it as directed.
Reply:Keri lotion or cheaper yet Vaseline intensive care
Reply:The best thing and cheapest Ive found is a daily regimine of good old vaseline. A small amount and rub it in on a nightly basis (after getting out of the shower to retain the moisture in your skin) works wonders. It may not go away overnight, but you will see a difference an a few days.

Taking a long soaking bath in WARM water, not hot, that has epsom salts is also good for the skin. Make sure to have traction skids in the bottom of the tub since the epsom salts make the surface feel very very slick. You can get the same thing only scented in someplace like BED BATH AND BEYOND or in the health or home section of most stores as bath salts.

Just make sure that nothing you use has any alcohol of any kind in it. Alcohol will dry out the skin, and most moisturizers have at least some kind of isopropy alcohol or variation of.

Does Lipitor cause itchy skin in some users?

Have been on Lipitor for the last twelve months, in fact I stopped taking it two days ago.

I am always seeking out the conclusion" paragraph of various studies. I not only dont like most of what I read but now I can add my personal experience. Having had joint and muscle

pain I am still experiencing itchy skin.

I know that every drug has some side effects especially Lipitor so I am starting myself on POLYCOSANOL which is made from the wax off sugar cane. As for my Dr, Ill tell her after 3 months.

I have two questions, firstly is there anybody out there who has also experienced ithy skin on Lipitor and secondly has anybody had good results with POLYSOCANOL. Nearly all the studies lean positively towards polysocanol.

Some people say that these "natural" substances are not FDA approved, but my argument is ...well what about the side effects of some of the approved ones"? There is truth in both, but in this instance Ill go for the Polycosanol.

Does Lipitor cause itchy skin in some users?
don't they have the side effects printed on the drug package?
Reply:These "natural substances" are not approved as toxic drugs by the FDA. That doesn't mean for even a moment that they don't work.

In the US the FDA believes that Newtonian Physics applies to medicine. To them it is only possible that one single molecule can have an effect in the body. So herbs, which sometimes contain 100s of phytochemicals simply can't be evaluated by their standards.

However, in Japan and Germany, they have advanced "natural medicine" standards that have proven some herbs (when processed correctly) to be more beneficial than any available "drug" on the market.

So take the liver-toxic drug that is supposed to lower your cholesterol. Why do you need to poison your liver to stop it from making extra cholesterol? It's not like high cholesterol causes heart attacks. In fact 50% of all heart attacks in the US happen in people with completely normal cholesterol levels.

The American Heart Association recommended 2 YEARS AGO that the C-Reactive Protein test be used to predict heart disease because it is 80% predictive of heart attacks.

But remember: C-Reactive Protein doesn't CAUSE heart attacks either. It is a biomarker that lets you know something else is going on.

So consider this, a healthy liver makes 90% of all the cholesterol in your body. Why not support good liver health with a better diet? People who do regularly end up getting off their drugs (under doctor supervision) and that's what "good health" should be.

Policosanol: Popular supplement doesn't reduce cholesterol

From MayoClinic.com

Special to CNN.com

What happened? A new study reports that the popular nutritional supplement policosanol does not reduce cholesterol levels.

Previous studies suggested that policosanol reduced total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or "bad," cholesterol. Policosanol was also reported to boost high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or "good," cholesterol. Most of these studies were supported by a single research group. The latest study — which included 143 participants from multiple sites and a placebo control group — found no distinct link between policosanol and changes in cholesterol levels.

Policosanol is sold in oral supplements and products such as One-A-Day Cholesterol Plus vitamins.

What does this mean to you? Few natural products have been proved to reduce cholesterol. If you're thinking about taking a cholesterol-lowering supplement, check with your doctor. And remember the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Eat healthy foods, exercise regularly and avoid smoking.
Reply:Dear Asker, that is a good idea. Over the years I have noticed the media reporting that a particular product causes cancer then next week it will prevent cancer. Who can you trust? I would like to know your results. Hope it works for you. Report It

Reply:Had the same experience. Switched to Vytorin and ended all the aches, pains and itch! See your doctor

Pimply spots and itchy skin....?

I have been ttc for 7 months, andI am due on my period in 1 days time, i usually get 1 or 2 big red sore spots on my face just before my period, but the past few days i have been getting itchy little pimples instead and itchy skin (never had that), did anyone have before they found out they were pregnant.

Pimply spots and itchy skin....?
yes i did really badly i was on fire with the little pimples they drove me mad for 3 days and i was pregnant
Reply:ok... hmm.......
Reply:nope never heard of that.
Reply:no...the only thing i had was constantly throwing up (no such thing as morning sickness only all day n night sickness!!) :D#

but everyone is different i suppose!
Reply:No cant say i did but it sounds like uv had a allergic reaction to something hun a little hydrocortisone 0.5% should do the trick.

Hope it clears up!!!
Reply:I've never heard of that. Are you any medications? They can cause itchiness, and that means you're allergic to the med. Anyway, wait till you get your period. Give it a couple days, and if the itchy pimples don't go away, then it's time for the doctor. Good luck, my dear.

Dry itchy rat skin?

my rat mocha has dry itchy skin

i found a few scabs on her the other day

what would cure this?

i dont want her to itch herself t the point that it bleeds

help would be much appriciated

Dry itchy rat skin?
First, clip her nails so she doesn't harm herself anymore than she already has. Secondly, go to Petco, they sell a skin moisturizer for rodents, follow the directions and it will work. How often to you bathe her? Rats have very sensitive skin so bathing her too much is causing the dry skin, OR it could be caused by the weather. IF you do bathe her too much, you can use the Pet Sensations Rodent Coat deodorizer instead, it's a body spray. Good luck!

Here's some links to help

Waterless shampoo http://www.petco.com/product/13163/Pet-S...

Skin moisturizer (you can use it for rats too) http://www.petco.com/product/14298/Marsh...

Body spray http://www.petco.com/product/104006/Trop...

They also sell the body spray for Pet Sensations

Also, feeding her a little portion of avocado daily will help put oils back into her skin. Or break open a Vitamin E pill, separate her hair on her back so you see the skin, place a drop on the top or bottom part of her back or where ever it is dry. I did both of those before and it's worked for me.
Reply:It maybe mites so you can buy some flea and mite drops like you would for a cat but make sure they are for rodents and maybe put some tea tree cream on to soothe the rats skin. good luck.
Reply:We rescued two rats and one had dry skin as you describe. We did not think he had mites but treated with Ivermectin, just in case, but the condition only improved a little. We took him to the vet and he had lice, treated with several rounds of Revolution for puppies/kittens. We used a little Jojoba oil on his back to help sooth the skin. Hope this helps.

A diet too high in protein and fat can cause itching and scabbing around the neck and shoulders. Also a diet deficient in the essential fatty acids will give the same results-- scabs. If you are feeding a seed mix-- cut way back-- a balanced diet like rodent block, fresh fruits and vegetables, plenty of water and perhaps a vitamin supplement or better yet, a coat and skin conditioner for pets (pet shops sell a good one for ferrets-- but it smells like fish) would be your best bet.

2. What type of bedding are you using?

Sometimes hair loss, scabs and itching can be due to allergies or contact dermatitis. Cedar and pine are not good bedding materials-- may people use CareFRESH, a recycled paper product.

hope this helps
Reply:Try dipping some bread in olive oil, and giving that to her as a treat on occasion, the oils should help with her skin and coat.

I would've thought you were bathing too often, but you already commented that it's only every 2-3 months.

It could be genetic, maybe it's something that a vet who is familiar with rodent issues would be able to help with, but I'd start with the olive oil.

Is itchy skin normal when you are losing weight?

This is a strange question I know, but I can't find another explanation. First off, I am a well lotioned person, especially when the cold weather comes on so I know it's not dry skin. Lately I feel itchy in the places where I am seeing noticeable shrinking (weightloss) like my hips and arms and stomach. Mostly my hips though. I am a bigger girl and recently changed my lifestyle and eating habits which are resulting in weightloss, if that tidbit of info helps. So is the constant itching a result of the weightloss or something else, watcha think? Has anyone else experiencd this too?

Is itchy skin normal when you are losing weight?
Probably from the lack of fat in your daily intake. A lack of fat in the diet will dry up your skin and hair, you need that fat to keep yourself glowing girl!

REALLY itchy skin...anyone have any answers or ideas??? or suggestions to relieve the itching???

I have VERY itchy skin...i mean there are horrible raised welts where i scratch and since I scratch so much, there are little lines all over my back, arms, stomach, and legs. I just had a baby about a month and a half ago and I was just wondering if I could have had an allergic reaction to the epidural or the saline they put in my IVs??? I never itched this bad before I gave birth. It looks like I scratched myself with something sharp and it left a bunch of raised lines and redness where I scratched.

REALLY itchy skin...anyone have any answers or ideas??? or suggestions to relieve the itching???
befor anything if you are breast feeding then dont take any drug untill you check with your doctor.

And if its as itchy as you say and you are a breast feeding lady i guess you should report it to your doctor or to what ever clinic you usually visit...it may be just regular hypersensitivity ...but because you have a child to care about then you have to report it to check if what you have is something other than hypersensitivity..that is to be on the safe side.

And about what they gave you i dont think that the effect would be delayed that long cause your body would have had a reaction directly if you took an iv injection.
Reply:It's stress dear. The marks look puffy? Like whip marks. Little bit of rubbing alcohol will fix you right up.
Reply:Are the lines looking like redish streaks? If so, go to the ER or Urgent Care.

If not, take an Antihistamine, an oatmeal bath (Aveeno makes a good one) and a day or so after, and Epsom Salts bath.

However, you really should be seeing your doctor as soon as possible about this as it could be any number of things causing this. Please make an appointment.
Reply:Aveeno also makes a lotion that has no perfumes, that is very soothing. If you continue to have issues after using external treatments like Aveeno Oatmeal baths and lotions, please follow up with your doctor.

The article I've attached talks about itchy skin during pregnancy due to the relase of estrogen, but you also get a release of hormones after birth. It recommends what we've recommended . . . Definitely avoid fragrances. You might consider washing your laundry in fragrance-free soaps, as well, like those you can get at Whole Foods Market.

Best of luck to you . . .
Reply:Try bathe with warm water, and apply hydrocortizone 1% or 2%. If you're not allergic to any medication, you can also take benadryl.I suggest you go see your Dr. right away..

What can I do about itchy skin in pregnancy? I'm 22 weeks gone and this is my 6th pregnancy......?

....(3 failed pregnancies and I have 2 children) This pregnancy is totally different to my others and I'm finding this one quite difficult. The main problem I'm having is with itchy skin - it's driving me insane!!

My skin is not dry and I moisturise as normal but I still feel itchy and have been scratching so hard sometimes that I bleed.

I have spoked to the doctor and the midwife who have told me to shower without using soap or shower gel and not to use cream or oils as these may aggrevate my skin more. I've tried everything.

I've tried using creams/oil, not using cream/oils, changed my washing powder to Fairy, only wear loose fitting cotton clothes, drink loads of water. I'm at my wits end cos I itch day and night and it doesn't seem to get any easier at any time.

I understand that the hormones make your body do funny stuff in pregnancy but there must be something I can do. I thought it would stop around 12/13 weeks, but it hasn't. Has anyone any suggestions?

What can I do about itchy skin in pregnancy? I'm 22 weeks gone and this is my 6th pregnancy......?
Girl I feel your pain!!!!!!!!

I have been SO itchy for about the past 10 weeks! It's making me insane. It actually keeps me up at night sometimes.

I keep lotioning myself to with no success of relief!

It's not just my abdomen, it's everywhere.... my legs, armpits, ankles, back, sides, breasts, tummy, neck, shoulder... EVERYWHERE!!!

I'm 38 weeks along and I've gained 15 lbs with the pregnancy so it's not like my entire body is stretching out of control, only my belly and breast have gotten bigger, no swelling, etc.

If you find a solution I have GOT to know!!!!!!!! I've tried the palmers and it has not helped at all :-(

Maybe we should both wear some mittens, LOL.
Reply:Palmers is good...anythign with cocoa or shae butter!!!
Reply:Read this: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/itchy-s...
Reply:The only thing that I can think of is to make sure that everything related to your skin is scentless. For some reasons the things companies use to make products smell good are common skin irritants. That means go for hypo-allergenic lotions that are scent free, as well as soaps and body washes. You should also try changing your laundry detergent, as many of these can be very allergenic. About 30% of the world can't use half of the detergents out there, and I don't know what you use but Tide is the most common to cause skin irritations. I personally use All Small %26amp; Mighty because it is inexpensive. The kind that comes in a white bottle is scentless and designed to help pull common allergens out of your clothes.

I hope this helps. I know it stinks that pregnancy can change the silliest things about your body. Good luck!
Reply:it sounds like a result of the skin stretching... hmm maybe try some vitamin e oil or shea/cocoa butter
Reply:I know how you guys feel i went through the same thing and i found that eucerin cream or citaphil or any kind of excema cream works well for the itching also talk to your doctor or mid-wife and see if some benadryl would be ok to take my doctor actually prescribed me zyrtec and it worked great i was prenant with twins and they are 5 months old now and healthy they had no side effects and were born 6.12 and 6.7 at 36 weeks along good luck
Reply:I would die if I couldn't use oils or creams on my skin! This is going to sound strange, but what about olive oil (you might smell like an olive, but there should be no allergic reaction)? I also use Clarins stretch mark cream on my stomach. It's a godsend. (I'm just itching thinking about not putting cream on my skin LOL This winter cold has really dried out my skin.)

Make sure you're eating enough fat (good fats, not bad). I add linseed to my morning yogurt and try eating daily a salad with olive oil or safflower oil as a dressing. I always try to eat a pat of butter a day too. I eat lots of nuts - walnuts, almonds, peanuts (unsalted).

Perhaps try a humidifier in your home to combat dryness.

Good luck.
Reply:i was itchy for about 3 months into my pregnancy. I started using lotion called Nivea and it really helped me. I think using a coco butter stick or lotion will help. Some people it helps and some it doesnt so dont count on the things that i told u to use. Sorry for the pain. i know exactly what u r talking about
Reply:I would ask your Dr about it next time you go in. Some people have kidney problems (I think) during pregnancy and it can be harmful. If it is not normal itching from dry skin I would be concerned.
Reply:try talking to your doctor/midwife again as itching can be a sign of pre-eclampsia so best to get checked out.
Reply:I had exactly the same thing. So uncomfortable. A friend recommended Bio Oil to me. I know you have said you've tried creams and oils, but not sure if you've tried this one. It really helped and double bonus I got no stretch marks. It is expensive, but it stopped me trying to tear my skin off. The odd day I didn't use it, I was scratching all day.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck. x
Reply:have you had liver function blood tests. the reason i ask this is because with my last 2 pregnancies i had very itchy skin but is was the palms of my hands, soles of my feet, chest area and i had blood tests which showed i had obstetric cholestasis which affects yoyr liver, i also had orange wee and was very unwell especially with my last baby. you need to ask your midwife about this and get a blood tets to check because it can cause complecation with the baby in late pregnancy. if you do have this condition it is controlled with medication and regular scans for the baby. if test is negative and you are still very itchy ask for another every 4 weeks as in mid pregnancy symptoms are present before blood reults rise and with me i was developing signs at around 24-26 weeks but my results didnt show until i was 32 weeks. good luck and try aqueous oil from drs
Reply:I'm 31 weeks pregnant with my 1st and I had the same problem or really itchy skin on my tummy and my legs and I use a cream from superdrug and its just vitamin e cream and its really good and always soothes my skin..also you could dry e45 thats good for dry skin conditions...wear cotton tops so if you sweat you won't get itchy and get a rash....good luck x

Dry, itchy skin?

I get dry itchy skin on my legs, and I try to use things like shea butter and ultra moisturizing things, but all of the things I use have fragarance, and unnecessary ingredients. Does anyone have suggestions for pure, moisturizing lotions that aren't by big commercial brands? No budget on this one! Thanks!

Dry, itchy skin?
coco butter lotion
Reply:I'm going to watch this question, because I have the same thing. Right now, I am using Eucerin Calming Itch-Relief but it is expensive.
Reply:Lubriderm lotion

make sure it's unscented and dye free and lanolin free.

works like magic.
Reply:Try use Nivea. But apart from applying moisturer, I think you should drink lot of water.
Reply:Lubriderm works does work very well. Some of my clients with this skin type have mentioned using oil after a shower, and then patting dry, helps them. Oils such as almond, avocado, jojoba, are some of the ones they have mentioned to me, and that they work well for them.
Reply:aveeno
Reply:Coca butter is the key!
